Evan Worley 6’7″ Hillsboro: The slender combo forward had an excellent night of putting the ball in the basket from several different places on the court. I was most impressed with his ability to use the backboard to score, which is a lost art. He was tough in the post with numerous buckets inside, but he also displayed his perimeter shooting with several 3-pointers.
Riley Naeger 6’7″ St. Pius: One of the bigger players in the league, Riley had his way with smaller defenders as he used his size and skills to his advantage around the basket. He worked the high post well against a zone defense with tough drives to the hoop, a high-post jumper or some solid passing to the wings. He also crashed the offensive boards well for putbacks.
Matt Martin 6’5″ Windsor: It was my first time seeing this young man play and for good reason; he didn’t play last season. I was very impressed with his inside-outside game. He got excellent position in the post and finished well with drop steps and short jumpers in the lane. He also stepped out and knocked down 15 footers from the high post. His fundamentals were very good.
Kayden Cook 5’8″ St. Pius: The small point guard is quick and plays with very good pace to get things going in the transition game. He is also an excellent player in the half court offense with his ability to shoot the ball from 3-point range. He really makes things go.
Ethan Worley 6’2″ Hillsboro: A solid all-around guard who always seemed to be in the right spot at the right time. He was constantly running and moving and that led to many transition layups and wide-open 3-pointers. He plays very well within a structure because he is always keeping the floor spaced.
Norman Alford 5’11” Windsor: A physically strong guard who is built like a tank, but is very skilled and mobile. He has very nice handles and he made good decisions with the ball as he dropped some nice dimes and attacked the basket on his own. He used his strength to get downhill and make many plays to the basket.
