Yonge, and Gainesville-Eastside all have some talent worth looking at over the next couple years. Check out the final piece, part three, of the night’s top performers.
Jalen Speer – P.K. Yonge 2020: Can’t say it enough, but Speer is looking like the leader of the Wave for his final season. He’s the best ball-handler on the floor, for them. Without question, the best scorer on the squad. Whether by barreling through the lane & getting to the rim, or hitting a bomb from three, the success of the squad depends a lot on Speer’s shots falling. But, he’s never been one to look off his game. He’ll do what’s expected of him.
Dre Lawrence – Hawthorne 2021: Dre is on the shorter end when it comes to height, but DEFINITELY makes up for it with heart and hustle. He’s arguably one of the best offensive rebounders for the Hornets, and does a great job at using his speed & strength to weave through the paint and get to the rim. Dre is crafty, to say the least. This is another guy who should be key for Hawthorne, this season.
Torey Cobb – P.K. Yonge 2021: Here’s another shorter guard who makes up for his size with his ability to outbound your big man. P.K. Yonge is doing a great job at teaching their guards how to attack the boards, because he was flying all over the court in-search of the ball in the air. If he can find a way to give the squad 8-10 points in the second unit, Cobb could become a nice role player in the rotation.
Blake Homan – Bronson 2020: Blake is looking like the best shooter the Eagles have in their arsenal, right now. The shifty guard can stroke it from three-point-range, and even give you the 18-foot long-two. He communicates well on defense, helps his teammates get into the right spots. Has the makings of a leader for this Bronson squad.
Nick Williams – Eastside 2022: This rising sophomore has the makings to be a true threat for the Rams as the years roll by. You can tell he’s hungry to become better with every game, played. Williams is another guard who can hit it from beyond the arc, but operates well once he gets into the painted area. Can finish over the top of people, or make the small dump-off for a quick assist. Look out for the guy.
