ORANGE, Ca.—The Magic Memorial/Adidas Gauntlet Regional Qualifier at Orange Lutheran High was yet another outstanding stop on the Grassroots recruiting trail. Etop Edo Ema and his staff do an outstanding job of attracting the very best from the Adidas circuit as evidenced by the outstanding performances—most notably Evan Mobley (Compton Magic).
Trevan Martin (Gamepoint 16U)
2021, SG, 6-foot-3, 185 pounds
Joel’s Take: “Basketball Player” is what first comes to mind when describing Martin. He impacts the game with his IQ, savvy, and moxie. Whether it’s grabbing rebounds in and out of his area or finishing plays in traffic, he does it all. He can knock in the deep jump shot and his head is on a swivel at both ends of the floor, monitoring the defense.
Tajavis Miller (Los Angeles Elite)
2022, PG, 6-foot-2, 175 pounds
Miller approaches the game like a young Chauncey BillupsJoel’s Take: The biggest revelation of the day was the play of Miller. The Servite sophomore-to-be dominated all foes in leading his team to the 15u Adidas Gauntlet Championship. He has a chiseled frame with good length and he shows excellent quickness and speed. Despite his youth, he plays with a great pace and never gets in trouble with the dribble. He knocked in a number of cluthc 3s and delivered some timely passes to open teammates.
Sinoe Lose (Team Lillard)
2021, SG, 6-foot-1, 155 pounds
Joel’s Take: Lose is yet another prospect who played with a great deal of poise and efficiency. He has a tight pull-up game, gets great lift on his shot and he too plays with a great pace. His head is always up at both ends of the floor navigating the defense on offense and reading the other team’s tendencies on defense.
Joshua Jefferson (Dream Vision 15U)
2022, PF, 6-foot-6, 220 pounds
Jefferson has impeccable footwork and handsJoel’s Take: Jefferson was one of the better “bigs” in the event. He has a physical frame, good length, soft hands, and impeccable foot work in the post. He puts defenders in knots on the block with his up-and-under moves and overall savvy to score in the paint. Not too mention, he delivered timely passes and rebounded at a high clip. Reminds me of Michigan State standout Xavier Tillman with a little more “pop” in his legs.
Obinna Anyanwu (Dream Vision Next)
2021, PF/WF, 6-foot-6, 215 pounds
Joel’s Take: Anyanwu has been on the recruiting map since his 7th grade year due to his physically imposing frame at such a young age. During the spring he was a bit up-and-down and that tends to happen depending on “touches”. However, at this event he impacted the game in a variety of ways—most notably his motor. He finished a number of plays in the paint, grabbed numerous passes, and played solid all-around defense.
