Chaparral and Mountain Pointe
I was very curious to see how both of these squads would do since I believe that they lost a lot from last season. Both of these teams made it to the championship of their bracket and faced off against each other. Chaparral defeated MP by nearly 20 points. This is very promising for both of these squads and I am excited to see what they will do next season.
Millennium
Millennium played some of the very best of the best competition in the nation. They were in the top bracket and ended up as the consolation champs. They lost to national powerhouse, Mater Dei. However, Millennium proved that they could play with the very best of the best and look like the team to beat in 5A. They made a very strong case for themselves to be in the discussion for top team in the state.
Sunnyslope
Slope won their bracket and won it convincingly. They have so much size it is almost unfair. This size should help them get over some of the other top 5A teams who lack size. I think they are really going to give Millennium a run for their money and make a solid run at the championship.
Ironwood
Ironwood is lacking a lot of size, however they still looked good. The little size they had last season is gone but they made due without size last season as well. I expect them to turn in a solid season and make a solid playoff run. Their guard play is top notch with Dominic Gonzalez, Bailon Black, and JJ White.
Top Scorers
I saw some great scoring performances this event and I think these players are going to make a run for the top scorer in state superlative. Ty Ty Washington would be my first choice/guess for top scorer next season. I’m also going to put Evan Nelson and Tay Boothman in that category. All three of those players are the go to scorers for their teams. Deven Franks, Dominic Gonzalez, and Logan Phillips should be considered the dark horses for the award.
