Texas would take its 102-95 victory back to the Lone Star State, but not before Smith scored 16 points to lead Oklahoma in scoring.
He laughed afterwards.
“It felt really good winning the MVP,” said Smith, “Honestly I didn’t expect to get it, but I did, so cool.”
Smith shot 7-of-9 from the field to finish with 16 points, while also adding 8 rebounds, the second-most for Oklahoma.
He also finished second in the Chic-Fil-A Dunk contest.
Smith said he enjoyed getting to play against the talent Texas had to offer as well as play alongside some of his friends.
“It was really cool to be able to play with some friends that I grew up with in Tulsa,” Smith said,” and playing against some of the best in Texas.
Smith also was able to play with a few of his former Team Griffin teammates: Kellen Hines, Jackob Germany, and JD Ray.
Shemar is the first player to represent Norman North in the Faith 7 Bowl since Trae Young in 2017.
Smith said he plans to play in the All-State game at the Mabee Center on July 25 at 8:30 p.m.
