Player Of The Night:
Marlon Lewis | 6’4 | MD Spartans ’21
Lewis had the most impressive performance of the night as he led his team to a 53-39 win over Overlea with a stat line of 26 points and nine rebounds. After a slow start, Lewis exploded (literally) as he saw the lane open up and took off from the middle of the paint to throw down a two-handed dunk that brought the crowd to their feet. In the second half, Lewis found his touch from deep by nailing three three-pointers to ultimately seal the win.
Here were some standouts from the contests.
Deamony Alvez | 6’3 | Kenwood ’20
Alvez led the Bluebirds with 13 points while pulling down five rebounds and dishing out two assists. Alvez has decent size and soft touch around the rim. He displayed an determination to get into the paint where he was able to rise over his defender for close jumpers or floaters.
Jayier Anderson | 5’11 | Kenwood ’21
Anderson was one of the hardest workers I saw all night and his stat line of 11 points and 10 rebounds is a fair indication of that. He mixed it up well as a scorer with six of his 11 points coming from three and the rest off of offensive rebounds. Anderson pressured the ball constantly and forced a couple turnovers to give his team fast break opportunities.
Taylor Hickey | 5’8 | Overlea ’23
Hickey came out with a flamethrower well beyond the three-point line and was a big reason his team stuck around for the majority of the game. The rising freshman connected on four triples as he led his team with 14 points. Hickey also displayed a good feel for the game considering his age.
Jordan Strickland | 6’4 | Parkville ’20
Strickland had a solid night’s work posting 14 points and nine rebounds in a win. Strickland makes his impact felt most on the offensive glass where he utilizes good timing and his long arms to earn second chance opportunities. Strickland also made a couple of impressive plays in transition after he corralled the rebound, which resulted in him finishing lay ups at the other end.
Bradley Hall | 6’3 | Harford Tech ’20
Hall was a fun player to watch simply because he understands how to play the game. His team was short-handed, so he had to play as the big for the majority of the game, but did a nice job on both ends working hard. Hall’s 14 points came very efficiently and when he wasn’t shooting, he was making the extra pass to find the best shot possible for his team. He pulled down eight rebounds and was the first to get on the floor for loose balls.
Emanuel Henriques | 6’3 | Ben Franklin ’20
This was my first time getting to see Henriques after hearing good things about him. He didn’t get chances to display his true athleticism in transition, but the 6-foot-3 guard showed lift and touch on his jump shot. He finished with a game-high 13 points in a win. He also communicated consistently and effectively on both ends.
Noah Oliver | 6’1 | Eastern Tech ’21
Oliver was the only perimeter player that was much of a threat for the Mavs, but it was enough to escape with a win last night. The 6-foot-1 guard logged 15 points and nine rebounds, showed a good motor throughout and finished well around the basket.
James Elliot | 5’11 | Digital Harbor ’21
The Rams were missing a lot of their main players for this game, but their rising junior guard in Elliot helped them make a late-game push to make the final score respectable. Despite the loss, Elliot recorded 17 points, 10 of which came in the final 10 minutes of the game. Most of his buckets came off of simply bull-dozing his way to the rim. The lefty guard did show some ability to shoot after knocking down two mid-range shots in the first half.
