For this article, I’ll break down the 2021 prospects that stood out throughout the day.
Nnanna Njoku | 6’8 | Sanford ’21
Njoku was a dominant force on both ends of the floor throughout the two games. He’s equipped with great size and strength that can overwhelm his match up. Njoku squared off against Roman Catholic sensation Jalen Duren. Duren, a 6-foot-9 forward, is regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2022 class. Njoku shined in the match-up, scoring 21 points and scoring in just about every way. He showcased great leadership and a solid motor.
Rasheed Dupree | 5’8 | KIPP Charter ’21
Dupree was the smallest player on the floor in both games, but was one of the most impactful players I saw on Saturday. Dupree has a bulldog mentality when it comes to guarding the ball and despite his lack of size, is fearless driving and finishing around the rim. He played with great control off the bounce by knocking down jumpers or utilizing his court vision and finding open teammates.
Saveon Jackson | 5’11 | KIPP Charter ’21
Jackson and Dupree make up one heck of a backcourt for KIPP Charter. Jackson makes his impact felt on the defensive end with his ability to anticipate in the passing lanes and using his quick hands to poke the ball away from the ball handler. Once he gets the steal, Jackson knows how to finish at the other end, usually with finesse. Jackson led KIPP, scoring 19 points in each game on Saturday.
Malik Missouri | 6’5 | Gilman ’21
Missouri continues to put together a solid summer with his performances at this event. Missouri had a tall task (literally) in the first game guarding Duren of Roman Catholic. While Duren got his share of buckets, Missouri was resilient in staying quiet on the offensive end. He forced Duren to play out on the perimeter more and took advantage by knocking down a three. Missouri also had a few good plays off the bounce in which he finished around the rim.
