BEST SHOOTER | VINCENT PAYNE | 6’2 SG | GORETTI ’21
This was probably the most difficult category to select a winner from because there were so many who shot it at a high clip this weekend, but Vincent Payne wins this superlative for his consistent shooting and exquisite form. Payne displayed efficient shot mechanics and a super quick release, both of which paid dividends.
BEST BALL-HANDLER | ADRIAN BALDWIN | 6’0 PG | ST. FRANCES ’20
Does it come as a surprise that Ace Baldwin wins this category? Maybe for some, but he clearly has the ball on a string.
BEST PASSER | LOU HUTCHINSON | 6’5 PG | EPISCOPAL ’22
Lou Hutchinson has size which gives him tremendous court vision as a point guard, but he also knows how to accurately set up his teammates with crisp passes. Hutchinson will only continue to improve as he becomes more comfortable with playing at this level.
BEST SHOT BLOCKER | AVERY FORD | 6’6 PF | PAUL VI ’21
Several were considered for this superlative, but Avery Ford is the winner here for his consistency. From day one, Ford has been an impact player defensively for PVI, and he has not stopped dominating that side of the ball since.
BEST TWO-WAY PLAYER | EARL TIMBERLAKE | 6’6 SG | DEMATHA ’20
Earl Timberlake seemed to be the clear winner in this category. He can score in any way imaginable and defend basically every position on the court. Perhaps the most underrated attribute Timberlake possesses is his ability to facilitate.
BEST WING DEFENDER | WADE JACKSON | 6’2 SG | PALLOTTI ’20
After careful consideration, Wade Jackson earns the nod as best wing defender from DMV Live II. Jackson showed that he’s built to defend at a high level both physically and mentally.
BEST INTERNATIONAL PROSPECT | ARNARDO CAMACHO | 6’3 PG | NATIONAL CHRISTIAN ’20
Arnardo Camacho was not just the best international prospect at DeMatha this weekend, but probably the best sleeper as well. Modeling his game after Jason Kidd, the Dominican prospect was one of the best playmakers we saw over the weekend.
BEST LEADER | XAVIER LIPSCOMB | 6’3 PG | SSSAS ’20
Xavier Lipscomb demonstrated all the intangibles coaches want from their leader. First and foremost, he shows respect to every opponent he faces, and this means he is going to go hard every time he steps on the court. Maybe most importantly, Lipscomb is a team player who remains even keeled no matter the time or score.
