Representatives from Boston College, Delaware State, East Carolina, East Tennessee, Fairfield, Florida, James Madison, Georgia, George Washington, Louisville, Marquette, North Texas, Rhode Island, St. John’s, Virginia, and VMI were among those on hand. Below is a brief rundown of six standouts from the first night.
QUINCY ALLEN | 6’8 SF | MARET ‘21
It was a complete performance from Quincy Allen tonight. The emerging wing showcased his smooth and versatile offensive skill set throughout the evening. One thing that stood out about Allen’s overall performance was his court vision and passing skills. He led Maret with 8 assists, but also had some nice moments defensively. Allen is a high-level athlete who protects the rim with pride, can hit the boards, and ignite the fast break.
CHRIS GAMBLE | 6’0 G | SIDWELL FRIENDS ‘22
Chris Gamble did several little things that helped contribute to Sidwell’s win against Chavez. Perhaps most impressive was his willingness to rebound on both ends. Gamble demonstrated a good handle and the ability to hit difficult shots. He was also comfortable posting up, using shot fakes to keep defenders off balance, and embracing contact in the lane. Gamble also showed impressive strength and body control when finishing through contact.
KENT KING | 6’2 G | CESAR CHAVEZ ‘22
Kent King is a productive guard with good length and sneaky athleticism. He’s a good defender who reacts quickly and plays with active hands but tends to reach too often. King looked comfortable shooting off the catch and setting his feet for his quick release
GEORGE PERKINS | 6’8 F | SIDWELL FRIENDS ‘22
One of the best long-term prospects we saw on Friday night had to be George Perkins, who has taken significant strides in the last few months. Perkins is a long and versatile forward with great hands. He’s a good rebounder both in and out of his area who boxes out and has underrated strength. Perkins is a confident spot up shooter from 15 feet but can also face up and attack the rim efficiently. For a young player, Perkins exhibits outstanding intangibles. He communicates defensively and is not afraid to step up and take a charge.
JOSIAH TAYLOR | 6’4 F | COOLIDGE ‘21
Josiah Taylor made an immediate impact upon checking into the game with his unrelenting energy and fearless demeanor. Taylor is a bouncy and long-limbed forward who is adept at slashing to the basket and finishing in traffic.
ALEX WILLIAMS | 6’1 G | MARET ‘20
Alex Williams had one of the best two-way performances of the evening and was certainly in the conversation for best shooter in the gym tonight. Perhaps what was most impressive about his performance was how well he defended both on and off the ball.
