Now I recap the 2021 class as several names impressed and should be followed as the season begins in November. Many of these names will help fill voids left by their high school teams while others will continue to rise with their respective teams. Here are my top junior-to-be prospects from Dayton’s Team Camp last weekend.
Casey George (Pickerington North)
I really liked how much of a leader George is on the floor for the Panthers. A very talented ball-handler, Casey controlled the ball and his movements against very tough defensive pressure. While his offensive game is solid, defensively he needs to improve on getting through screens as he was caught at times and allowed his man open shots.
Logan Duncomb (Moeller)
Duncomb has vastly improved since I saw him last in March. Possessing great size already, Logan has shown a much more physical side of his play as he battled it out in the paint. An improved post defender, he showed he could cut off post entries and pushed around his opponents in the paint. With lots of potential in Duncomb, Moeller has a legitimate chance of running the GCL again and even looks to be a favorite again in Ohio after a strong performance last weekend.
Zakai Alexander (Pickerington Central)
Zakai is yet another athletic guard for the Tigers and he showed off at Dayton’s camp. On the offensive end, he runs the floor and did good in transition for Pick Central. He has a lot of speed and hustles on both ends of the floor. With the Tigers losing their starting backcourt last season, Alexander should see a much larger role come November.
Aidan Noyes (Moeller)
Noyes was one of the better post defenders on display last weekend. He does a great job of fighting over post-ups and playing physical against opposing big men. At times Noyes was smaller than his opponents, but he has a tough motor and high work ethic. I think he will play an even larger role for a Moeller team that again looks to be a powerhouse yet again in Southwest Ohio.
Jalen Sullinger (Thomas Worthington)
Sullinger was a high IQ guard for TW and showed off his athletic abilities in fast break situations. Able to push the tempo with his speed and ball-handling, Sullinger impressed with his ability to spread the floor and keep the offense balanced whether he possessed or not. An unselfish player, Sullinger keeps the ball moving and does not take any forced shots.
Tyrese Hughey (Thomas Worthington)
Hughey was arguably my favorite player to see last weekend. An athletic forward, he was a tremendous finisher and used a strong upper body to power through defenders. On the defensive end, his length allowed him to contest shots on a consistent basis and make an impact for TW. With his ability to play above the rim, I can see Hughey being a highlight reel throughout the Winter, especially if he is getting alley-oops from Sullinger.
