From a team perspective, Capital, South Kitsap and Wilson looked really good. Wilson defeated an extremely talented Lakes Lancers team, which has some of the top class of 2021 prospects. South Kitsap has a duo of freshman guards along with a returning backup PG who compliment their very skilled inside presence. Capital also showed a pretty similar ingredient to South Kitasp with some young smart guards who don’t make mistakes. Foss played extremely hard as a team and Mt Tahoma, despite missing their center and point guard looked pretty good and are all worth the price of admission.
Top Performers:
2020: 5’9 – Josh Joseph – Mt Tahoma
Josh was easily the most electrifying guard of the day. Josh was able to create a lot of space off the dribble and knocked down multiple 3’s and also get the rim under control. Josh is currently carrying the scoring load with multiple players out due to injury, but Josh looks perfectly comfortable and was efficient.
2021: 6’2 – Javon Ervin – Lakes High School
This kid is an absolute monster with jaw dropping athleticism. With the body of an NFL running back and the athleticism of a high jumper, his ability to attack the basket is impressive to watch. Lakes Lancers have a ton of talent, but are young and will need to mature, but the talent is there.
2020: 6’5 – Gavin Morkert – South Kitsap High School
Probably the overall MVP of the day. Gavin played very well with Coach Aubrey Shelton of the University of Puget Sound in attendance. He rebounded, attacked the basket with a few monster dunks, defended well and played under control.
2020: 6’3 – JC Humphries – Tahoma
JC is a nice size guard who can do it all for Tahoma. He knocked down open shots off the dribble, he also posted up smaller defenders and showed a consistent floater with both hands which was very impressive.
2020: 6’5 – Derrick Carroll – RiverRidge
I had a chance to watch the 1st half of the RiverRidge vs Yelm game and Derrick stood out right away. At 6’5 Derrick looked very comfortable facilitating the ball in transition. Derrick seemed to play extremely hard and put on a great show for the first half.
2020: 6’1 – Roman Bockhorn – Peninsula High School
Roman was extremely clutch vs Stelicom. Roman knocked down a huge 3pt basket to push the game into overtime, and in overtime, Roman made a huge 3pt basket and free throws to ice the game for the Peninsula Seahawks.
2023: 5’10 – Tayshawn Haygood – South Kitsap
Tayshawn is a very tough guard who plays with the confidence of a senior. Tayshawn has a great body for an incoming freshman and attacks the basket under control. Tayshawn looked very comfortable against Foss and his defensive intensity along with his ability to attack the basket played a huge part in South Kitsaps victory.
2023: 5’10 – Kevaughn Harvey – South Kitsap
Another very good incoming freshman who plays with a very high IQ. In a very close games vs Foss, Kevaughn made some very smart plays towards the end of the game by bypassing open shots for higher percentage shots which led to a South Kitsap victory.
2021: 6’7 – Kenzel Massey – Lakes High School
Probably the most highly touted player of the Curtis summer league, Kendall showed his ability to really be an elite defender. He struggled to create his own shot off the dribble, but he competed extremely hard defensively.
