Class 5
Rock Bridge: The defending state champions must replace its incredible Class of 2019 group, but there is still some good talent on hand. 2020 guard Charles Wilson is a veteran with talent and experience while 5’6″ 2021 guard Xavier Sykes is a dynamic little bucket-getter with loads of confidence and shot-making ability. There is plenty of size up front with 6’5″ 2020 forward Jacob Ungles being the most experienced of the group.
Hickman: The host Kewpies looked very solid as they move on without the services of do-it-all guard Jarvis Jennings, who has graduated. 6’0″ 2020 guard Caillou Naylor is an athletic guard who plays much bigger than his size with his tough, slashing takes to the basket. 6’5″ 2021 forward Seth Larsen is a big-body with a nice perimeter skill set while 6’3″ 2020 Nate Wilson plays with excellent energy and hustle.
Class 4
Helias: The Crusaders looked strong as they won all six of their games in two days. I saw them on Saturday where they were without excellent forward Caleb Justice. The perimeter play was very good with 5’8″ 2020 guard Isaac Johnson, 5’9″ 2023 guard Desmond White and 6’4″ 2021 Colby Lucuru, who were all knocking down 3-pointers. 6’4″ 2021 forward Damon Johanns was very productive in all three games. When Helias gets back 2020 standout guard Marcus Anthony back healthy, they should be very good.
MICDS: The Rams are a very young team with a bright future. They won all three of their games on Friday. There is size and length with 6’6″ 2021 forward Jack Pronger, who can really shoot it and 6’6″ 2021 forward Aaron Hendricks, who is developing into a quality inside player. 6’5″ 2021 wing Nick Roper is a nice 3-point shooter and 5’11” 2021 guard Sam Wienstroer is a tough kid who can score. 2023 point guard Steve Hall is a bright young floor general. The Rams were without 6’5″ 2022 standout Brandon Mitchell-Day.
Class 3
Father Tolton: The Trailblazers were shorthanded without the services of standouts Coban and Jevon Porter, but they put a solid unit on the floor led by 6’2″ 2020 guard Nathan Schwartze, who was one of the best players in the event. He was very good at creating his own offense as was 2020 guard Deuce Tatum. 6’2″ 2020 guard Johnny Berndt can fill it up from 3-point range while 6’9″ 2023 forward Evens Appolo did a very good job on the defensive boards.
Monroe City: I’ve seen a lot of the Panthers in June as they traveled all over the state for competition. I continue to be impressed with 6’1″ 2022 twins Joshua and Josiah Talton, who both are talented offensive players. Joshua is a little bigger physically, but both can shoot the 3-pointer and take it to the basket. 2020 guard Bryce Stark is also a physical perimeter player who can get things done. They are primed for another successful season.
Hogan Prep: The Rams had a team with a lot of speed and quickness on hand with 6’3″ 2020 bucket-getter Kevin Sorrells leading the way. He was very good at creating shots off the dribble. 6’2″ 2021 forward Ra’Jon Hill is a top football prospect who brings excellent athleticism to the basketball court. 2023 point guard Staci’o Goree is a young floor leader with a lot of quickness and talent.
Montgomery County: The Wildcats are built around its talented brother act of Carson and Collin Parker, who are both tall and very capable players. Carson is a 6’8″ 2020 forward who is strong around the basket with his scoring, but also with his passing skills. Collin is a 6’6″ 2021 combo forward who is much more comfortable on the perimeter with his ability to handle and shoot the ball.
