Catching Up With Four-Star Guard Meechie Johnson
Meechie Johnson is one of the top ranked players in the state, in his class. Breaking onto the scene with a 50 ball his freshman year, Johnson has been impressive since.
Partially through his sophomore year, the Bulldog tore his ACL, a devastating injury. But, he hasn’t let this bring him down, or hamper his big time plans.
I was able to reach out and catch up with the junior, and asked him a few hoops related questions.
Interview:
1. How has the injury helped you? Mindset?
• I wish no injury on anybody, But this Injury has helped me a lot and was the best thing for me right now in my career! I learned so much about the body, on what I need to work on to become a pro and I also was able to learn new things about my self and grow as a person and mature for the next level!
2. How far along in recovery are you?
• I had surgery March 13 and I’m 3 months and 2 weeks out from surgery!
3. Schools that have stayed connected after the injury the most?
• Schools that stay connected to me the most was Ohio State, Florida, University of Miami, Maryland,Wisconsin, And Ive also talked to Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State, St Johns, Alabama and Duquesne
4. What are you looking forward to in your junior season? Goals?
• What I’m looking forward to in my Junior season is really just getting my Knee Strong! I don’t plan on rushing back or coming back early, I plan on getting it Stronger, ready for aau season, and dominating anybody that’s in front of me on those rankings and climbing up! I want to show everybody that I’m the best guard in the country and that this injury made me stronger!
5. What are you looking for in a college?
• What I’m looking for in a college is a coach that I can have a great relationship with and talk to them about anything and they trust me, I trust them. That coach to coach Me the best way they can and push me to be a pro! I’m also looking for a school that will let me come in and earn my spot as a leader and lead a team as a Point Guard and play my game the way I can.
6. Part of your game you want to improve?
• Part of my Game I want to improve is my athletic ability, body control in air and the way I move and also my defense. I’m well known for the way I shoot the ball and score and getting my teamates involved. But, I want a team to know that when they are playing against me not only will they get the best of my offense. Also, see me check there best player in keeping him from scoring big numbers.
7. Lastly, just a General hoops question, where do you think Kawhi, KD, Kyrie sign?
• I think Kawhi will either end up in LA or stay in Toronto, I think Kyrie will be in LA with Bron if he can’t team up with KD. I thought KD would stay in Golden state but it looks like he’s mad at them. So, maybe him and kyrie will team up!
