Blake Lund is a combo guard from Linden High School. He plays grassroots basketball for Oakland Elite. Lund is one of the top players in the class of 2021. He’s proved himself repeatedly on the camp scene, including in 2018 when he played up at the Prep Hoops Top 250. Lund should be a top recruiting priority for a school needing a disciplined and versatile perimeter player.
On June 15, Blake Lund attended Youngstown State Elite Camp in Youngstown, Ohio. We recently caught up with Lund to talk about his experience at this camp.
Question:
What was your main goal for the camp?
Blake Lund:
My main goal of the camp was to play against some great competition and make sure it was a good learning experience. I wanted to make sure I listened to the YSU coaches and players to learn from what they had to say. It was important to me that I made sure I was a better basketball player when I left the camp.
Question:
What was the highlight of the camp for you?
Blake Lund:
The highlight of the camp for me was many different learning experiences. The skill stations and conversations with the YSU players and coaches was information I could use to continue to grow as a student athlete.
Question:
In what area do you feel you benefitted most from the event?
Blake Lund:
I feel I most benefited from listening to the YSU coaches and players talk about the game of basketball at the college level allowing me to learn from their experiences and knowledge.
Question:
What was your favorite part of the camp?
Blake Lund:
My favorite part of the camp was the campus tour they took us on. We got to see the beautiful campus with all the new construction and money being spent to upgrade the facilities. I learned interesting facts how involved the community is in making YSU a better experience too.
Question:
Was their a coach there that you really enjoyed learning from?
Blake Lund:
YSU Head Coach Jerrod Calhoun was great to learn from, he told us what they look for in a recruit. He also spoke about the recruiting process and how he runs his program. We also learned about his background and who he has coached with and his experiences coaching with different people and programs. I could definately see myself enjoying playing for Coach Calhoun and a program like YSU.
Question:
Was there another player there that you were impressed with?
Blake Lund:
There were several skillful basketball players there. Camps like this do not bring out the best in team basketball fundamentals. Some guys played the game very intelligent and tough. It would be difficult to pick just one guy that I saw play well at the camp.
Question:
Whats next for you?
Blake Lund:
I will be at the BCAM Reaching Higher camp this Sunday at Milford HS. My Linden HS team will be at the University of Michigan team camp Tuesday June 25th and the Oakland University team camp Thursday June 27th. July is a big month for my travel basketball team, Oakland Elite, and I want to make sure the team does well. I am looking forward to going to several other college prospect camps in June, July, and August as well. It is a goal of mine to graduate HS in the top 10 of my class and play college basketball. So I am always studying and preparing for the SAT, or in the gym/weight room/studying game video. I am always working toward achieving that goal.
