33 varsity teams and one JV battled it out for 3 days. High level competition brought out the best in everyone. Teams learned a lot about themselves in some tough games and hopefully they can take it with them into next weeks live period.
Here were some of the rising senior standouts that I hadn’t talked about yet:
Anthony Irvin SG 6’3 175 Corona del Sol
-One of the most improved rising seniors in the state. He has some of the deepest range and has grown a little in height and strength. His range on his jumper and extra height allows him to do other things. He can put the ball on the floor and rebound better plus defends every team best offensive player. He may not be the lock-down defender but that part of his game has improved immensely.
Eric Blackwell CG 6’0 170 Corona del Sol
-Tough combo guard who hits shots. Can pull-up off the dribble and hit from deep. Physical defender with his football background. Is reportedly a good WR/CB. Either way he lays it all on the line every time he steps on the court.
Sunday John SF 6’3 160 Willow Canyon
-Super athletic lefty is a terror in the open court. Developing his deep ball slowly every year is a tough on-ball defender. Very good first step and gets downhill quickly. He is a more of a wing and plays off the ball but his defense and athleticism make him an intriguing prospect.
Isaac Monroe CG 5’11 155 Peoria
-High level shooter from the perimeter. One of the better deep shooters in the state from his class, in a good shooting class. He can make plays for others and find teammates. He has a nice pull-up and his “next one is always going in” kind of mentality.
Caleb Alonso SF 6’5 160 Desert Ridge
-Long lefty is skilled. Very comfortable from the 3pt line and can post up as well. Smart passer and uses his length in the passing lanes to collect steals plus rebound. Has a deceptive first step and can get in the lane and score it with contact despite his thin frame.
Omar Knight PG 6’0 165 Hamilton
-Scoring lead guard has deep range and a consistent shooting stroke. He defends his position with his speed and length and gets up the court quickly with the ball. Highly competitive guard will be a tough back court mate next to Jamar Brown during the HS season.
Justin Fisher SG 6’0 175 Hamilton
-Slashing guard is a two way player. Stronger upper body can absorb contact in the paint and score it. He can make a catch 3 but is best getting downhill.
