Here were 10 of the Day-1 standouts.
2020
Hunter Ruck C 6’9 Rancho Solano Prep
-One of the best all-around performances of the night. He shot the ball from deep, posted up and scored with his polished hook shot and defended inside. He is a good two-handed rebounder and can track the ball to block shots. He is very athletic and has strong broad shoulders to absorb contact.
Ruck finished the night with 17 points 12 rebs and 3 blocks.Devon Brooke SF 6’6 American Leadership Academy
-Feel for the game is super high and he is a unique player. One of the best passing forwards in the state with great size, bounce, skill and next level court vision. He can hit the deep 3pt shot pus rip through and score it on floaters or flush it down and can make a play off of it. He can sling the ball in traffic perfectly to a running teammate and is extremely unselfish and all about the team.
Sincere Parker SG 6’4 AZ Compass Prep
-Strong scoring guard with a compact stroke from the perimeter. He has good length to defend on the perimeter and is a good passer. He is very athletic and looks to be an impact transfer.
Parker transfers in from Morgan Park HS (IL) and will be outstanding in the Grind Session.Chance Garland SF 6’5 McClintock
-You may not find many more athletic in the entire AIA then Garland. He is a point forward type and creates so much offense for his teammates. He is a natural slasher but a capable deep 3pt shooter. He is better off the catch then pulling up off the dribble. He will be one of the top players in 5A this upcoming HS sesaon.
Dyson Lighthall C 6’7 American Leadership Academy
-Strong 5-man can shoot it from the perimeter plus is a nightmare to defend with his back to the basket. He is highly efficient deep in the paint with advanced post moves. Big strong hands to rebound and a good passer.
Tyson Legner SG/CG 6’2 Rancho Solano Prep
-Rising senior has improved every year. Good upper body strength and a consistent deep 3pt shooter. Uses his length to defend on the perimeter and is a smart player. He will play off the ball mostly in college but play the lead spot for the Mustangs this year showing his versatility.
2021
Frankie Collins PG 6’1 AZ Compass Prep
-Hard to find any better pure PG’s in all of the West Coast. Uber athletic and an elite passer with either hand. He has a tight handle and the game has fully slowed down for him. He can get to any spot he wants and his jumper keeps making the necessary strides. He also is a bully on-ball defender and a good teammate.
Maxwell Lewis SF 6’7 AZ Compass Prep
-Elite above the rim athlete who is one of the best dunkers in the state. He seems to glide around the court and has deep 3pt range. His pull-up is clean and uses his massive wingspan to collect steals and rebound the ball.
Kahan Shoulders PG 5’10 San Tan Charter
-Under the radar pure PG who has great speed and quickness. Slows down and speeds up quickly with a tight handle. Quick on-ball defender can hit perimeter shots and turn the corner on his defenders.
Shoulders speed was on display Thursday night.
2022
Nate Pickens CG 6’1 Paradise Honors
-One of the better guards and shooters in the soph class. He has a polished pull-up and can finish in traffic with off left hand. He can push the ball in transition, advance pass and make plays for others but is usually looking to score.
