Lamar Washington (2022 Jefferson) – Washington had things cooking with his game – the 6-foot-3 rising sophomore was knocking down threes – he canned three of them – and he was getting to the basket and finishing well in transition. It’s pretty certain the Demos will be facing a lot of zone this season and if Washington continues to proves himself to be a knock-down shooter – watch out.
Trejon Williams (2022 Jefferson) – Williams did what he does, take care of the basketball, get into the opponent’s grill on defense, and relentlessly attack the basket offensively. But one thing Williams has been working on is his perimeter shooting, and on one possession it was impressive to see him catch a pass in the corner, step up and hit a three with confidence.
DJ Edmondson (2022 Benson) – Edmondson is a transfer from Evergreen and it was our first time getting to see him in action. The 5-foot-10 has a tremendous handle, good quickness, and the ability to finish acrobatically around the basket. Edmondson also showed some touch from the outside in hitting a couple of deep threes.
Huxley Martin (2022 Benson) – Martin played varsity at Benson last season but got minimal time. That should change this season as the developing 6-foot-8 big man has really started to emerge on both ends of the floor. Martin was solid on the boards and defensively but where he opened eyes was with his touch from the perimeter, as he drained three corner threes. He’s undoubtedly a player to watch.
Marquis “Mookie” Cook (2023 Jefferson) – It wasn’t a spectacular performance from the star freshman, but Cook was certainly solid. He found his spots within the offense to score six points near the hoop and contributed with a couple of rebounds and assists – the type of all-around game that the 6-foot-5 and still-growing wing should see him fit in with the Demos rather seamlessly.
Sanborne Melson (2023 Jefferson) – Melson won’t be playing varsity this season but don’t be surprised to see him moving up in the very near future. The 5-foot-10 guard may still growing physically and as a player but he oozes plenty of potential. Despite going up against bigger and more mature opponents, Melson fearlessly took the ball to the basket with confidence and also sank a couple of threes.
