The usual stars shined on opening night with Ty Ty Washington Jr, DaRon Holmes II, De’Vontes Cobbs and Frankie Collins.
Here are some players who may not be as well known, but had good opening nights and are extremely important to their teams success:
Jason Kimbrough PG 5’11 160 2021 Mountain Pointe
-Much improved rising junior may be the engine to their success into next HS season. He can shoot it easily from deep and plays at a good pace. He is very controlled, confident and poised. He doesn’t get sped up and has good length to defend the opposing teams top guard. He will be relied on heavily to produce to take this team into a deep playoff run.
Zereoue Williams PF/C 6’7 230 2021 Mountain Pointe
-Big time rebounder has huge arms, a sturdy frame, good athleticism and nice hands to corral any rebound in and out of his area. He tracks the ball well to block shots and always seems to be in the correct position to at least alter the shot. The lefty has a nice drop step, and although he may be a year away to be relied on to be the main scorer, he has already made big strides. Look for another jump up in the next year under the tutelage of Coach Price.
JJ White SG 6’3 170 2021 Ironwood
-Strong bodied 3 and D type of player had a good night. He is a physical defender using his length, strength and quickness to keep opponents in front of him. He also has a high arcing catch-3pt shot that is looking better each viewing. He compliments off of Bailon Black and Dom Gonzalez perfectly.
Brady Reynolds PF 6’4 2022 Basha
-Efficient post player does his job. Very good hands, runs the floor and has a consistent soft hook shot he seems to always make. He knows how to gain position and uses his strength, skill and motor to get the job done.
Tyrese Rogers CG 6’0 2020 Boulder Creek
-Quick combo guard can shoot it from deep plus take it strong to the hole. He has a stronger build/frame and absorbs contact better to score it in the paint. He is a smart player who knows when to attack or let it fly. He may avg close to 18 ppg this season for the Jaguars.
Demari Hackett PF 6’5 180 2021 Valley Vista
-First time viewing him and he impressed. He has good length and brings physicality to every play. He rebounds well and has good post footwork. If he doesn’t make his first move, he can counter off to score on another move making him difficult to defend. He uses his length to score over or around the defenders and block shots at a good rate. Look for him to have a huge HS season.
Hackett may turn some heads this upcoming season.
