Millennium defeated Cesar Chavez in the rematch to win the Big School Chip. Both schools look to be possible favorites in 5A (Millennium) and 6A (Chavez).
Here were some of the seniors who shined:
Isaiah Floyd SG 6’3 175 Eduprize (Team Harden)
-One my big risers from the class locally. Seems to get better every month. His catch 3 is looking way better and is one of the most athletic players in the state. He is a powerful dunker and plays with impressive aggression. Uses strength and athleticism to defend and can make smart reads to teammates. Handle is improving and gets through traffic and can finish around the bigs easily. (Pictured)
Sincere Parker SG 6’4 185 AZ Compass Prep
-Good body control and more athletic than he gets credited with. Deep 3pt range and has a nice handle. Improving his handle in traffic and can pull-up. Long wingspan allows him to defend his position along with his strength and he is fairly quick.
Xavier Dusell SG 6’4 175 AZ Compass Prep (Team Harden)
-Deep ball was clicking this weekend. Has a quick release and is a dead-eye shooter. Very consistent off the catch. One of the best in the state at it. He can get by his defender and finish with left or right but is best off catch. Their lone loss was when he didn’t play.
Jerry Iliya F 6’5 195 Paradise Honors
-Had a great weekend for himself. His motor is off the charts for the athletic forward. He rebounds anything near him and can defend multiple positions. He plays like a face-up 4-man but will defend on the perimeter and uses his strength and length to defend inside. He can make a catch-3 and when he is in rhythm, he can create his own shot and size up his defender and pull-up from deep. He attacks off the dribble and likes to get downhill. He can improve his consistency as a shooter and get his handle a little tighter but he will run through a wall to make a play.
Dominic Gonzalez SG 6’3 165 Ironwood
-Catch and shoot 3pt shooter. He can create his own offense off the dribble. He can get to the hoop or pull-up. As the team’s leader, he communicates well with his younger players. Good length, smart player and will get inside for rebounds. Can start filling in over the next year or so.
Robby Devries CG 6’4 175 Millennium
-A big guard who can make plays. He can post up smaller guards and go to work plus find teammates with nice court vision. He is a very consistent catch shooter from the 3pt line and can pull-up from mid-range. He gives full effort on defense and is just another nice piece for the Tigers.
Miles Sulka SG/SF 6’3 170 Mountain Pointe
-One of the most important players for the Pride this season. He is their true floor spacer. He hits one, the next 5 are going up. He is a rhythm shooter with a lot of confidence. He does take a shot or two too many but not for the lack of confidence. He does move the ball well looking for other shooters.
