This was one of the most highly skilled and entertaining championship series in recent memory. The 2 teams were filled with players willing to sacrifice and battle for their teams.
We looked earlier at some players in Michigan’s class of 2020 that had a champions mentality similar to stars like Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Fred VanVleet, and Kevin Durant. We’ll now take a look at a 5 of the players from the class of 2021 that have the mind frame of a champion.
Pierre Brooks (G, Detroit Frederick Douglass)
Brooks is one of the most talented players in the country. In my opinion he’s easily a top 100 prospect. Brooks is an all around player that makes opponents search for an advantage. He puts up big numbers, but that’s not his main concern. Before everything Brooks is a winner, much like Kawhi Leonard.
Kobe Bufkin (PG, Grand Rapids Christian)
Bufkin has gone from a solid prospect in Michigan to a coveted top 70 player in the country. And he’s still a prospect on the rise. Bufkin has a pretty lefty stroke and the handles and IQ that allow him to get looks at the rim. Bufkin is a bona fide floor leader who controls tempo and influences the game on both ends.
Legend Geeter (F, River Rouge)
Everyone knows that DeMarcus Cousins sacrificed for an opportunity at an NBA title. Geeter embraced coming off the bench last season just to help his River Rouge squad make a run at a state championship. This from one of the most talented and versatile players in the state. Geeter is a Division 1 prospect with tons of upside.
Owen Lobsinger (G/F, Flint Powers)
To start with, Lobsinger is easily a top 15-20 prospect in Michigan’s class of 2021. He scores, rebounds, and defends, all at a high level. Lobsinger is a quiet workhorse that lets his game do the talking. He’s willing to play whatever role is needed from him, much like Fred VanVleet.
Trip Riemersma (SG, Zeeland East)
Riemersma has an outlook on the game of basketball that leads to championships. He loves the work, loves the game, and wants to win. Riemersma is a sharpshooter from behind the arc much like Klay Thompson. He has become one of the best pure shooters in the state.
