Here is a look at the top prospects I saw on the day (Part 2).
ICYMI: UCF Team Camp Standouts (Part 1)
AJ Staton-McCray (West Oaks)
It is quite apparent that the addition of 2020 6’4″ guard AJ Staton-McCray from Blanche Ely is going to pay huge dividends for West Oaks this fall. He made his debut for his new squad and was fit right into the speedy style of play West Oaks employs. Staton-McCray is a crafty attacker and someone that creates a lot in transition. He was really against both Lakewood and Dillard on Sunday.
Kanye Jones (Windermere)
Coming over from First Academy, Windermere has earned a true riser in 2021 6’3″ guard Kanye Jones. The rising junior is a standout shooter from the mid-range and 3-point land. He fits really well next to fellow 2021 guard Trey Moss and gives the Wolverines, a versatile and fast backcourt. Look for Jones to thrive at his new spot.
AJ Brown (Orlando Christian Prep)
One of many talented young prospects on Orlando Christian Prep, 2022 6’3″ guard AJ Brown continues to improve his game. A quiet and determined guard, Brown is long and clearly not done growing. He hit a corner 3 in the closing seconds against Westminster Christian and had the game-winning layup in sudden death overtime. Brown is a very instinctive and intelligent player who has a ton of potential.
Naseem Khaalid & Selton Miguel (West Oaks)
West Oaks has a plethora of guards and ones that can do different things to hurt defenses. 2020 6’2″ guard Naseem Khaalid came over from Jacksonville First Coast and recently decommitted from FSU. He is a tough and strong guard who doesn’t back down from anyone. Alongside him is West Oaks mainstay 2020 6’4″ guard Selton Miguel. He draws contact often, intimidates teams with his power and IQ. Khaalid and Miguel are going to be super dangerous together no matter who has the ball in their hands.
Jahsean Corbett (Poinciana)
Vocal and full of competitiveness, 2021 6’6″ Poinciana forward Jahsean Corbett is a player who is always active on the floor whether he’s scoring or not. Still raw in some aspects, he’s a reliable stretch shooter from the mid-range and his effort level is there as a fluid attacker. Corbett needs to get stronger in his upper body, but he’s on his way up with his pure athleticism and length.
Kdyn Waters (Cape Coral)
On a young Cape Coral squad, 2022 6’3″ guard Kdyn Waters has breakout written all over him. Taller than the last time I saw him early in his freshman season, he is a scoring machine. His combination of long arms and speed give him a leg up over slower and shorter defenders. Waters is a very good 3-point shooter and someone who plays the game the right way and with a lot of unselfishness.
Zae Wiggins (Superior Collegiate)
On a revamped Superior Collegiate team, 2021 5’11” guard Zae Wiggins was really good off the bench with the second unit. It was the first time this new group played together and he proved to be a reliable and hard nosed finisher. Wiggins will give Superior Collegiate an added dimension next to a couple of pure scorers in 2020 guard duo Eric Lee and Khalil Shaheed.
