There was plenty of action to be had and here is a look at the top prospects I saw on the day.
Jalen Speer (PK Yonge)
The best scorer on the day came from PK Yonge, a team with only eight players in total due to a football camp this weekend at FAU. 2020 6’0″ guard Jalen Speer is an absolute workhorse as a ballhandler, shooter, slasher and more for the Blue Wave. I don’t care if he’s perceived as too small, this kid can play and he scores in bunches. Speer hits 3-pointers with ease and he was lethal from deep on the day. His backcourt counterpart, 2021 5’8″ guard Adrian Bloodworth takes a lot of pressure off Speer with his speed and abilities as a distributor.
Selton Miguel (West Oaks)
Mentioned in the standouts piece from UCF on Sunday, 2020 6’5″ West Oaks guard Selton Miguel was back at it once again at a different high major Division I program in FSU. He was superb with his dribble drive moves and deception which opened up the lanes for his crisp passes. Miguel is always a threat as an attacker, but his IQ as a passer is getting better and better. 2021 6’4″ guard Jameon Harris likes to settle for jumpers sometimes too much, but today he was active with his fluid feet and finishing well near the rim. Harris will earn more college looks if he continues to be an aggressor when in the game.
Jaylen Martin & Tre Donaldson (Florida State High)
A pair of 2022 starters were reliable and strong all day long for Florida State High. 6’0” guard Tre’ Donaldson was an absolute workhorse when it came to slashing and his vision, vocal leadership and elusiveness are also true assets. Don’t forget his clear-cut speed as well. As for 6’5″ guard/forward Jaylen Martin, he’s at his best when he’s cleaning up misses and working inside with his strength and length. The duo play AAU together with Showtime Ballers and have incredible chemistry together.
Eddie Yon & Jordan Wilford (Lincoln)
Lincoln has a lot of lengthy forwards to keep an eye on. Two of them that stood out were a pair of 6’5″ athletes in 2020 Eddie Yon and 2021 Jordan Wilford. Yon has a keen skill at getting to the cup and drawing contact. Wilford is a gifted shooter who just starting playing basketball in the 8th grade, so his untapped potential is still there. Yon and Wilford should start together on most nights, giving Lincoln a lot of versatility, speed and size on the floor.
Myles Smith (Rickards)
A transfer from Impact Christian, 2020 6’5″ forward Myles Smith was the best playmaker for his new unit at Rickards. I last saw him at the On The Radar Hoops Battle At The Beach in Daytona in May. He impressed me then with his shooting ability and weaving on attacks. Smith was solid once again and his athleticism will get him a lot of looks from low to mid-major Division I programs.
Jamil Bowles (Choctaw)
Choctaw is starting to really click after slowly working through some kinks this past weekend at UCF. One of the emerging prospects who certainly passes the eye test there is 2021 6’5″ guard Jamil Bowles. He found really good areas on the floor and used his length and speed to blow past defenders. Bowles is a quiet and determined leader who has a ton of potential. Another notable standout from Choctaw was 2022 6’8″ forward Elijah Johnson. He was a load inside and a power player who is going to grab a ton of boards this upcoming season.
Malik Stovall (Rutherford)
For a very well rounded and hard working Rutherford group, 2021 5’11” guard Malik Stovall proved to be one tough and quick lead dog. He is a good knockdown shooter who prefers the corners from 3’s and mid-range looks. Stovall sets the tone well for his offense and everyone else follows because of it.
