2019 Final Player Rankings: Center Analysis
The final 2019 player rankings were released last week. Today we break down some of the top centers listed who are expected to make an impact at the next level:
Top Dawg: Drew Timme could have been chosen for the “Best Fit” award as well. It is an automatic two points when he catches the ball in the low post. He has an abundance of moves in his bag and is an excellent passer in any given situation. Mark Few did a great job securing the five-star all-around big man.
Coming on Strong: Nigel Johns (like most big men who wait till June to sign) is currently the most sought after prospect in the senior class. Multiple schools from across the country have been blowing his line to receive a last-minute commitment from the three-star big. Buffalo, Cal State Bakersfield, Lafayette, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, North Dakota, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, VCU, and Virginia Tech have all been recruiting Johns to an extent. Hopefully, the true center is nearing a decision on where he will be attending school next fall.
Best Fit: Tyreek Smith will utilize his athletic gifts to produce on the defensive end for Texas Tech next year. The four-star big will be a perfect rim-running and rebounding option within Chris Beard’s system. If Smith channels his efforts productively, he should have no problem receiving a chance to leave his imprint on Red Raider contests next season.
Biggest Sleeper: Xavier Cork should have had plenty of more offers to select from before he committed to Western Carolina. At 6-foot-9, the lengthy big swats shots and possesses great hands inside. Higher lever conferences will regret passing up on the defensive-minded big man.
