Here is a look at the top prospects I saw from the week (Part 2).
ICYMI: Part 1
John Gamble & Faustin Phanor (Charlotte)
For Charlotte, the Fightin’ Tarpons have some lengthy athletes to pair with 2021 6’7″ forward Tre Carroll (mentioned in Part 1). 2023 6’4″ guard John Gamble and 2020 6’8″ forward Faustin Phanor both stood out this week. Gamble is a blazing athlete who looks for the highlight reel dunk often and can shoot the ball well. Gamble has endless upside. Phanor cleans up things on the boards and likes to fight down low. Also, 2020 6’2″ guard Tyrik Gainer played sound as a point man and attacker.
Sean Shore & Trent Guttery (Evangelical Christian)
A pair of 2020 starters have very good on-court chemistry in 6’5″ guard Sean Shore and 6’2″ guard Trent Guttery. Shore is a high IQ combo guard who runs the show with his leadership, passing ability and smart shot selection. Guttery seems to always find openings against defenses and he doesn’t need much time to knock down a triple. They are fun to watch stretch the floor and move the ball around.
D’Mani Brown and Jamin Primus (Fort Myers)
Fort Myers has a lot of athletes on its roster currently. In 2021 6’2″ guard/forward D’Mani Brown and 2021 5’10” guard Jamin Primus, the Green Wave certainly get a lot of effort out of them. Brown is a transfer from Maryland La Plata who is lengthy, quick and a flyer down the court. Primus is a crafty point guard who can finish with both hands and flat out run in transition.
Jonas Dantzler (Gateway Charter)
A transfer from Jacksonville Parker, 2020 5’10” Gateway Charter guard Jonas Dantzler looks like a cornerback or change of pace running back when he’s out on the court. He’s fast as can be, a super crafty passer and a guy who will blow past you with his dribble drive moves and pure speed. Dantzler is in for a big senior season as the man in charge for the Griffins.
Ryker Vance (Community School)
Growing in height and confidence every time I see him, 2021 6’5″ Community School of Naples forward Ryker Vance is going to be really good. A wing/four on the floor, he mixes it up defensively and likes to get going off feeds inside on the offensive end. Vance will have to be aggressive more often than not to get noticed and make the most of his true talents.
Quinton Desamours (Lehigh)
The vocal leadership and poise that 2020 6’4″ Lehigh guard Quinton Desamours plays with are very enjoyable to watch. This kid is a grinder. Even after a miss or a turnover, he shakes it off and gets his team going. Desamours pushes the ball a lot, hits important shots and makes really good passes in open space. He’s a true pacesetter for the Lightning.
Tony Green (Naples)
2021 6’4″ Naples guard Tony Green has all the tools to be successful. He nearly landed a windmill dunk in a game, but just missed. His shot blocking ability is impressive. However, I don’t think he realizes how long or athletic he truly is. He likes to stand around the 3-point line and settle for jumpers. If Green takes more risks and attacks the rim, he will be a problem.
Andrew Nottige (First Baptist)
For First Baptist, the Lions play a smart style of basketball. 2020 guard Peyton Urbancic is the leader of the pack, but one of the more consistent shooters and crafty players is 2020 6’3″ Andrew Nottige. He can really get into a rhythm, especially from long range and at times, he is hard to stop because he creates a lot for himself. Nottige will be a huge asset once again this season for First Baptist.
