Mater Academy stormed from behind in the second half to edge Coral Gables, 59-56, in the championship game of the three-day 2019 Barry University High School Team Camp Sunday.

Mater, which trailed 32-23 at the intermission, outscored Gables 36-24 in the decisive second half. Here are the top 5 takeaways from Miami Shores:

The finish

2021 Walter Daniels' free throws brought Coral Gables to within 58-56 with 24 seconds remaining. Mater 2020 guard Isaiah Josue was then fouled. Josue made 1 of 2 free throws to put Mater back up three, 59-56, with just 15 ticks left. Gables had a shot to tie, but 2021 Desmond Romer's contested 3 at the horn was off the mark.

My MVP: Malik Reneau

2022 big Malik Reneau continued to shine in helping Mater Academy to a 7-0 mark at the Barry camp. He knocked in eight field goals on the way to a 20-point performance in the title game.
