Returning Starters. The Knights have three returning starters and all three of them – 6’3 guard Jack Cartwright, 6’6 forward Akoi Akoi, and – 5’11 shooting guard Zach Norton – are double figure scoring threats with experience to their game. Akoi and Cartwright have both earned college scholarships this off-season with the South Dakota Attack showcasing a variety of abilities. Akoi has scored athletically and with a nice little face-up game but when he plays actively off the ball throughout a contest he is a big number player. Cartwright is a good shooter but his intelligence as a player makes him even better. Norton is a shooter that plays opposite of Cartwright stretching a defense thin. Cartwright and Akoi have both been offered by USF (Cartwright offered three hours ago).
Reserves Playing a Bigger Role. Six-foot-5 big Eddie Meylor was a good rebounder and high percentage finisher off the O’Gorman bench. He played about two rotations as a sophomore last winter and when in he was trusted to collect caroms and make open shots around the basket.
Potentials from the JV. O’Gorman played five seniors in their rotation so at least three, likely four players need to step up from the younger levels to play a big role. Five-foot-9 junior point guard Reece Arbogast could step in and have a ball handling role while seniors Cole Hardie and Jack Kolbeck will also work for backcourt time. Six-foot-5 senior Cade Mikuska and 6-foot-4 sophomores John Costello and Chad Ambroz could provide frontcourt depth.
