Continue Reading160 players competed in the 17th annual WIBCA Showcase at Bellevue College this past weekend. There was a lot of good talent of players who caught the attention of the college coaches in attendance.
Below are a few players from each class who excelled over the weekend.
Class of 2019:
6’0 – Ben Olesen (Jackson HS)
Ben was crafty and showed an extremely high IQ. He also consistently knocked down shots. Ben showed why he was a WESCO 1st team all league.
6’2 – Skyler Hammer (Shorewood HS)
Skyler was one of the elite guards over the weekend. The 2nd team All Area player showed a little bit of everything. Great handle, good shooter and also rebounded well. Alot of coaches were impressed with Skyler this weekend.
6’3 – Jahvonta Jones (Kentwood HS)
Jahvonta has an excellent body. His physicality allowed him to attack the basket at will. Jahvonta also showed a consistent mid range jump shot over the weekend.
6’4 – Lane Kennedy (University)
Lane showed off his point guard skills over the weekend. With great size, Lane made some great passes over the weekend that had the crowed buzzing. Lane also showed a consistent jump shot from behind the arch.
6’5 – Cole Langstraat (Lynden Christian)
Cole showed his versatility this weekend. The 6’5 guard is very long and looked comfortable playing the PG, SG and SF. Cole played under control, was efficient and didn’t make many mistakes.
Class of 2020:
6’2 – Ayoni Benavidez (Kennewick HS)
Ayoni showed coaches once again that he can blow by almost any defenders and get to the basket. Ayoni was efficient from behind the arch and also had the highlight of the weekend when he almost threw down a monster dunk in transition.
7’2 – Conner Turner (West Valley)
Conner was a big reason why his team advanced to the championship game over this past weekend. Conner showed decent hands, rebounded and altered shots on the defensive end.
6’0 – Nate Snook (Columbia River)
Nate played extremely well this weekend. Nate showed an efficient jump shot, great vision and a true floor general. Nate was a big reason why his team advance to the championship of the WIBCA Showcase. Nate was Co-Player of the Year this past season.
6’7 – Tristin Smith (Southridge)
Tristin played amazing defense this weekend. Tristin showed off his versatility by attacking the basket under control and knocking down open shots.
6’2 – Jayce Simmons (East Central HS)
Jayce was on of the top on ball defenders over the weekend. Jayce played hard and under control. Jayce was a 2nd team all league selection this past season.
Class of 2021:
5’11 – Mason Landdeck (Cashmere HS)
Mason was easily one the top Class of 2021 guard this weekend. A lights out shooter with great elevation on his shot. Mason did an excellent job of creating space off of the dribble and moving without the ball, which created wide open shots and layups. This kids a scorer!
6’1 – Jose Reyes (Davis)
Jose was a very physical guard this weekend who attacked the basket under control. Jose made alot of tough shots look really easy. I see why Jose was voted conference Player of the Year.
6’2 – Haden Hick (Prosser HS)
One of the most athletic guards this weekend, Haden showed a consistent jump-shot and also used his athleticism to rebound and also attack and the basket and finish over defenders.
6’5 – Jalen Skalskiy (Bridge Academy)
Athletic lefty who had some of the best dunks over the weekend. Jalen ran the floor extremely well, showed a nice jump shot and also rebounded well. Jalen also seemed very comfortable handling the basketball in transition.
6’4 – JC Humphrey (Tahoma HS)
JC has great size and is very good at attacking off of the dribble. Defenders had a tough time staying in front of JC this weekend. Keep a close eye on Tahoma High School next season. They have some players!
Class of 2022:
6’7 – Kaeden McGlothin (Stanwood HS)
Arguable one of the top players in the state of Washington for the class of 2022, Kaeden showed a little bit of everything. He’s athletic, attacks the basket under control, rebounds, shoots the ball very well and has a high IQ. Kaeden missed a one handed tip dunk that really woke up the crowd and coaches in attendance.
6’7 -Tyler Linhardt (Kings HS)
Arguable one of the top players in the state of Washington for the class of 2022, Tyler showed off his versatility over the weekend. He showed the coaches in attendance that he’s able to create space off the dribble and also consistently score inside. He has a very high IQ with great size.
Other notable players who also played well: Colby Bennett (Post Falls), Devante Powell (Squalicum), Kyle Karstetter (Moses Lake), Tristin Smith (Southridge), Vladimer Salridze (West Seattle), Jacob Thompson (RA Long), Parker Androy (Lincoln), Cameron Williams (Kentwood), Latrell Jones (Ingraham).
Overall there was a lot of good talent this weekend of players who were coached by some of the top high school coaches in the Washington area. The players competed extremely hard and executed very well.
