After this weekend, most players will prepare for team camps, elite camps, and invite-only camps. Before we put a lock on the spring, Memorial day weekend typically gives you some top notch events across the country. Nike EYBL in Dallas, Adidas Regional all over the country, GASO in Dallas as well as the Boo Williams and Team Takeover events in the DMV. Here is a look at what’s on tap for the state of Georgia and some of the teams in the state this weekend.
AOT: ON THE BUBBLE
What was suppose to be a big year for the AOT runnin rebels in the EYBL, has turned into a do or die weekend in Dallas. At 4-4, AOT is in jeopardy of missing the Nike Peach Jam in Augusta in July. After a 1-3 start in Atlanta, they got back on track in Indy two weeks ago going 3-1. Sharief Cooper and BJ Boston, two 5 stars have constantly led the way for AOT. It won’t be easy in Dallas for this group. They open up with two teams under 500. City Rocks(3-5) and Team United (0-8). After that, they play 3 teams ahead of them in the standings. The Family (6-2), Boo Williams (6-2), and Mokan Elite(6-2). A split this weekend could qualify them for the Peach Jam. However, losing 3 or more games may get them eliminated. Not making it to the Peach Jam, would be a huge disappointment for AOT.
GEORGIA STARS: YOU’RE ON THE BUBBLE ALSO
What was once the flagship program in the state of Georgia, is trying to get back to the top. Georgia Stars are 4-4 in EYBL play. Just like AOT, the stars need some big wins to move on to the Peach Jam. The Stars are led by , Terrell Burden and Naheim Alleyne. Both of these players have been constant risers this spring. The Stars schedule is not as brutal as AOT, but they still need some big victories. They open up with All Ohio Red(4-4) on Friday, followed by Team Takeover(5-3), Team Why Not (5-3), Bradley Beal Elite (2-6), and Team Durant (4-4).
ATLANTA ADIDAS MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC
The regional portion of the Adidas gauntlet concludes this weekend at Lakepoint. All of the southern Adidas gold and silver teams are participating in this event. Be on the look out for the big 3 of the Atlanta Celtics. Devion Smith, Caleb Murphy, and Dwon Odom, have been tearing up the circuit this spring. Don’t be surprised the Celtics win it all this weekend. Another name that has been making noise is, Jayden Strauthers of Powehouse Elite. Strauthers has become a double double guy for the Gwinnett County program. Look for him to continue to rise in the rankings. Another name that has been skyrocketing is Joyful Hawkins of Game Elite Big 5. They won the 15u division last weekend at the Bob Gibbons TOC. Now, Game Elite Big 5 will play up this weekend in the 16u division at the Adidas regional. Add teammates, Scott Henderson and Cam Johnson, the Big 5 could win the 16u division this weekend.
