It has been a pleasure to have you compete. For some, that has not happened and they are continuing to play grassroots this season and are awaiting that call or seeing if they will pick up additional offers. Schools may be in luck as we take a look at some of the best remaining unsigned seniors that we have available.
Joel Scott – Lewis Palmer
Scott has had one of the best collegiate careers in the state and looking at his whole body of evidence he is one of the top three unsigned seniors we have available—it is about choosing the correct school. Scott has received offers but is looking for other things to open up and they should as he brings toughness and a unique ability to affect the game on both ends of the floor while being an undersized big man but too strong for a guard to manage. He plays above the rim and attacks the paint relentlessly. Scott is also a glass cleaner with a high motor and is a proven winner that makes others around him better. He is coming off of a state championship in his senior season in which he led Lewis Palmer to averaging 18.7 points and 6.1 rebounds a game while being a First-Team All-State player. For his career he averaged 15.9 points and 6.1 rebounds a game and will be a defensive specialist on any team that he goes to that is also able to get inside and disrupt the defense.
Jaylen Eikenberg – Rock Canyon
One of the most consistent players in the state over the past few years has been Eikenberg as what he brings to the table is unique. There are not many guards that are willing to defend at the type of level that Eikenberg can with the ability to pick you up full court and stay in front of you defensively as well. He is an aggressive defender that uses his body and is a versatile defender that can even go down and guard in the paint as well. Offensively is where he has made the most progression as he went from a role player that was a 3&D guy to being the primary ball handler that is able to run the offense and play within a system. Eikenberg went from putting up 4.9 points and 1.7 assists a game as a junior to a team high 14.0 points, 4.8 assists and 2.0 steals per game which were all a team-high. What a college will be getting is one of the state’s best defenders that is able to do whatever is asked of him. He is a workhorse guard that is willing to put in the work and will be a solid get at whatever school he goes to.
Jamil Safieddine – Regis
Saffeiddine is an intriguing prospect because he is a point guard with great size. He made the switch to playing off ball a ton to being the primary ball-handler and it has stuck. He runs the offense well, is able to see over smaller defenders and also has a fluid shooting stroke that shows that he can be a knockdown shooter when open. He has progressed with shooting off of the dribble but excels in the open court as he can get to the basket as well as finish as the rim as he is very crafty. He has great court awareness, does not force much and is able to take over in spurts. He was able to average 12.3 points and three rebounds and assist per game while adding additional pieces to his game every single year. What a school at the next level would be getting is a player willing to get better and progress as well as a guard with size that is able to run the offense to perfection.
Jaedon Bowles – Manual
Bowles had 129 points in the state tournament this season which ended up being a state record regardless of class. He ended up having one of the most remarkable state runs that was seen and it was topped off by a 3A state title. Bowles is one of the best scorers that the state has seen and has great size as a 6’6 wing that plays the right way. He does not force many shots and is able to score from all three levels as his 27.7 points per game his senior season was amongst the top in the state. He can create off of the dribble, finish at the basket and also was able to grab 7.6 rebounds a game and showed that he is able to affect the games in other ways. Amongst the things that he worked on is his willingness to pass the ball and show that he has great vision as he put up 3.4 assists a game is what stands out most. Bowles was a four-year starter that averaged 23.5 points and 7.1 rebounds a game. Schools should be knocking on his door as he is a player that is a knockdown shooter as seen with his 40.2% from beyond the arc for his career. Had he not been at a smaller school and played Grassroots with a bigger team I think this is something that would have already happened. He brings a full package to whatever school it is he decides and I expect him to sign in the coming weeks.
Tanner Giles — Chaparral
Giles is a player that somehow went under the radars for far too long and then jumped on the scene and exploded. He is a leader that is multi-dimensional and can go both ways. He is a combo-guard that is able to dissect the defense with his versatility. He can get to the rim where he has a really tight handle and set of go to moves that frees himself up or is able to knock down the open shot. Where Giles differs from other guards is his ability to play at an extremely high level at both ends of the floor. In the playoffs he was pivotal in the teams come from behind victory over Thunderridge and that was the embodiment of what he represents. All odds were stacked against the Wolverines and it was him who stepped up as a leader who led the charge and also had a game high five steals to showcase that he is able to step up when he is called upon. He is a multi-sport athlete and that is seen with his toughness. He is a utility guy that can do a bit of everything and whatever college that gets him is getting a player that will be used as a Swiss-army knife. He is a playmaker that can shoot or get into the lane, he has good court vision, he makes others around him better, can score when called upon and most importantly is a winner. He is a hard worker that can defend well and is willing to compete each and every time out and any school will be lucky to have him.
