Unsigned senior Vontae Pendleton (6-0 PG; Santa Fe South (OK)) is an impressive on-ball prospect with all-around guard skills, including passing, floor vision, slashing, finishing at the rim and defending.
THE ATHLETE
Vontae “Tae” Pendleton averaged over 20 PPG and 5 APG during his senior season at Santa Fe South (Oklahoma City, OK), where he excelled in leading his team to an Area Consolation Finals appearance, where the Saints fell just a game short of the State Tournament. Pendleton’s game revolves mostly around his ability to score the basketball and find teammates off-the-dribble. Pendleton’s propensity to dish off to his fellow wings fresh out of the cut or posts out of the screen is impressive. His floor vision and ability to create opportunities for his teammates can help a program at the next level in generating quick scoring.
As a scorer, Pendleton’s speed is what makes him go. He can blow by defenders to take the ball to the rim and is skilled in finishing shots. However, his measurable skills and what he can do with the ball are not Pendleton’s proudest skills.
“The main part of my game I really try to focus on is just playing hard,” says Pendleton.
He also says the main thing college coaches should know about him is his work ethic.
“That’s what’s going to separate me from other people,” Pendleton says.
THE PERSON
Pendleton plans to major in business or business-marketing.
I’m looking for somewhere with a good business program,” Pendleton says. “That’s really the main thing I want to pursue.”
As for his projected level of school, Pendleton says he just wants a school to take a chance on him.
“Everybody wanna go D-I, but you gotta be realistic,” Pendleton says. “There’s other great players. . . I’ll be grateful to be playing anywhere, to be honest with you.”
Pendleton is a player whom I believe can greatly impact a Division-II, Division-III or NAIA program at the next level. For more information, contact @McKinnisBryce via Twitter or anytime of the day at cmckinnis3@uco.edu
