LONG SOLIDIFIED A SPOT WITHIN THE TOP TEN
One of the things that I have always appreciated about Jahari Long is his ability to get his teammates involved. On Saturday, the three-star guard religiously found his teammates for open looks and easy scores.
At 6-foot-4, Long has great positional size and is what most would accurately label as a “true point guard.” The efficient passer has eyes on the back of his head and is willing to pass up scoring opportunities just to make sure all of his teammates are eating. His altruistic style of play and ever-improving jumpshot has been key in Cooz Elite ‘s two victories this weekend and will be the reason why he will be granted a spot within the top ten when the player rankings are updated.
BRENDAN HAUSEN IS A NAME TO REMEMBER
Yesterday, I was very impressed with 6-foot-10 rising sophomore Cade Hornecker (Dallas Mustangs 15U/Amarillo HS) and his current stage of development. However, his summer/high school teammate Branden Hausen is equally productive and had performances worth talking about on Saturday night.
Hausen was unconscious from downtown in the Dallas Mustangs matchup against Powerhouse Hoops 15U. He drilled in six three-pointers and finished with a game-high 22 points in the Mustangs’ double-digit victory.
Blessed with a nice build and good size at 6-foot-4, Hausen is valuable at either guard spot. He is more effective at the two-guard position because of his shooting prowess and deep range off the bounce. The duo of Hausen and Hornecker will be one to look out for as the two look to leave an imprint on West Texas basketball over the next three years.
ANOTHER PREP HOOPS TEXAS 25 SNUB
It was my first time getting a comfortable look at diaper dandy Cameron Crockett, and I was immediately impressed with his length and feel for the game. When looking at the gangly wing, you immediately notice his nonchalant approach to the game and lack of strength at this stage. However, Crockett is a smooth slasher who will finish craftly around the basket. He needs to tighten up his handle and improve his perimeter skills; but once he figures it out as a player, he will put himself in a great position to become a high major talent. I think it is safe to say that Crockett has a great chance of being a new addition to the Prep Hoops Texas 25.
