2020 6’3 Tristan Maxwell | Team Charlotte
Maxwell scored 23 points on Saturday in a win against Atlanta Express. 15 of his 23 came from deep as his team made it clear they wanted Maxwell to shoot it. He also scored the ball on a nice transition bucket and a nice driving layup on defenders. Maxwell looked everything like a guy that can produce good minutes in a power 5 conference in his college years.
2021 Alphonso “AJ” Smith | Team Charlotte
Another Team Charlotte guard that stood out on Saturday against Atlanta Express was the sophomore, AJ Smith. Smith is a bigger guard that score the ball well driving to the basket. Smith scored 16 points against Express. He can make shots when he is wide open, he finished a layup off the glass when driving to the bucket, rebounded the ball and showed he can go coast to coast with the ball and also hit a nice step back in my viewing of him. At 6’4, he also has a lot of strength to him.
2021 6’10 Matt Nunez | District WAWG
Nunez is still playing on the 16U team but looks like a guy that keeps on improving. Nunez was catching the ball down low and finishing at the rim by dunking the ball and also laying the ball up over his defenders. He brings a lot of height to the floor which allows him to play good stand up defense and alter shots. He was going up for rebounds and overall looked like a guy that is getting better and better as he has a lot of potential with his size.
2021 6’8 Julian Reese | Team Thrill
Reese showed this past weekend that he has a lot of potential and plenty of good basketball in front of him. Reese brings a ton of versatility and speed to the court which allowed him to constantly scoring the ball for Thrill. At 6’8 he was dominant in the low post and was just constantly in motion with the ball. Right now Reese is slotted at 29th in our Maryland/DC 2021 rankings but certainly has the chance to move up with a strong summer.
2021 6’1 Ahmad Harrison | Team Thrill
Another strong performer on the 16u Team Thrill was guard Ahmad Harrison. Harrison impacted the game on both sides of the ball for Thrill as he played strong defense and constantly looked to score the ball for Thrill. Harrison was another guy that walked away from NJ this weekend looking to increase his stock.
