Here were some of the breakout players from the junior class.
Liam Lloyd SF 6’5” 175 Gonzaga Prep (WA) (Washington Supreme 17 UAA-WA)
-Lloyd is a cerebral shooter. He makes plays with a nice handle but it’s his jumper with a quick release that jumps off at you. He can facilitate for his teammates and plays with an edge. He is deceptively quick to get downhill and plays a smart floor game. He is thin and will need to thicken up but I love his feel for the game.
Alem Huseinovic SG 6’3” 180 Chaparral (AZ) (Powerhouse Hoops 17 Rise)
-Huseinovic is a deadly shooter off the catch. He can create a little offense for himself off the dribble to rise up from mid-range but is best off the catch. He is strong on the ball defensively and a tough kid. He is from Bosnia and was on the 16U Euro National team last summer where he was one of the top scorers of the league. His stroke is pure with an ultra quick release.
Mykel Bingham PF 6’7” 185 Grand Rapids Catholic Central (MI) Grand Rapids Storm 17U Rise)
-Bingham is a skilled face-up forward. He can shoot it from the 3pt line, albeit a ball that goes a little sideways but is athletic and can score it near the hoop. He can block shots from the weak side and rebounds at a good rate. He is a fluid athlete but a little skinny and needs to thicken up.
Dre Henry PF 6’7” 225 Mountain Pointe (AZ) (Powerhouse Hoops 17 Rise)
-Henry keeps improving his court game as he distances himself from the gridiron. He can face-up from elbow and in and he is lighter on his toes. He is very strong with huge hands to rebound the ball, which is currently his best skill. He can power his way to the basket and his hook shot is getting better and better each day. The strong forward has a high motor and is a great teammate.
Brycen Long CG 6’2” 165 Gilbert (AZ) (Powerhouse Hoops Rise)
-Long is a true combo-guard. He will probably play off the ball in college mostly but is a very smart player and makes good reads. His best skill by a lot is his jumper. He has a pure 3pt shot off the catch. He has improved dramatically putting the ball on the floor for 1-2 dribble pull-up from mid-range. He is thin but has an ultra high IQ on both ends of the court. He is very smart on defense and moves his feet quickly and pushes his opponents towards the bigs. He talks a lot on defense and plays winning ball.
Jamal West Jr PF 6’5 1/2” 215 St Frances Academy (MD) (Team Thrill UAA)
-West is a bouncy undersized forward. He is powerful to score it near the rim and can explode up above the rim quickly. He is a face-up 4-man who has a good motor to rebound the ball.
