BEST LEAD GUARD | QUADIR PETTAWAY | 6’1 G | 17U WAWG/MILLER ’21
There is a lot to like about how Quadir Pettaway performed over the weekend. The 16-year old was a standout both times we saw him in New Jersey, and not just because of his ability to score. Pettaway also displayed winning intangibles. He took care of the ball, rebounded his position, communicated with his teammates, and scored efficiently.
BEST PERIMETER DEFENDER | AHMAD HARRISON | 6’1 G | 16U THRILL/GERSTELL ’21
There were several outstanding defensive performances over the weekend, but Ahmad Harrison was the most consistent good defender we saw. The long-armed 6-foot-1 guard is a pick pocket and a pick dodger who picks up full court and evidently loves to defend.
BEST SHOOTER | JOSIAH FREEMAN | 6’5 G | 17U WAWG/PAUL VI ’20
Josiah Freeman started off the weekend by hitting 4 of 8 long range bombs vs. Washington Supreme. He cooled off as the weekend went on, but there’s no denying that he is on the short list of best shooters in the DMV.
BEST SLEEPER | MAX BROOKS | 6’6 F | 17U DC PREMIER/GREAT MILLS ’20
One thing that stood out about Max Brooks was his versatility. The energetic 6-foot-6 wing can do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor and will only improve as he continues to grow into his body.
BEST STOCK RISER | JOHN OJIAKO | 6’10 C | 17U THRILL/ADMIRAL FARRAGUT ’20
John Ojiako had national scouts buzzing with his unique physical tools along with his efficiency around the basket offensively. Ojiako’s sheer length makes him a forceful inside presence that high major programs should begin to covet.
BEST TEAM | 16U DC PREMIER
Premier went 3-1 on the weekend with their only loss coming to a very good Philly Pride team. This team should be in the conversation for best 16U team in the DMV. Guys like Kino Lilly, Wes Peterson Jr. and Zaakir Williamson have been playing at a consistently high level this spring, but others such as Bez Mbeng, Devin Ceaser, and James Gross have stepped up more recently.
