There was a lot of good talent in the gym, and here’s a look at some of the top shooters that I was able to witness.
1. Benny Gealer – Compton Magic Elite 16U
Gealer has remarkable poise and confidence for a freshman point guardHe just completed his first year of high school basketball at Rolling Hills Prep. His team may have lost to Gamepoint, but he did his best to help his team back into the game with his shooting prowess. He helped cut into a double-digit deficit with five made threes in the second half. He’s near automatic when wide open. He spots up well and he has a quick release.
2. Alex Wade – Dreamvision Next 17U
An incoming junior at Cathedral Catholic High School, he is another knock down shooter that is near automatic if he is open. He is a good spot up shooter from three-point range. Defenders respect his outside shot and he uses that to his advantage to pump fake and put the ball on the floor. He is definitely a good 3&D type prospect.
3. Luke Turner – Compton Magic Elite 17U
Rancho Christian shooting guard Luke Turner is one of the best shooters in the Class of 2021.An up and coming player in the Class of 2021, he’s been known as one of the best outside shooters in the SoCal region while playing at Rancho Christian. He’s got a very pure stroke from the outside and a very quick release. He’s starting to expand his offensive game a little more, yet it’s that three-point shot that keeps defenses on their toes.
4. Zach Brooker – So-Cal All-Stars 17U
An incoming senior at powerhouse Sierra Canyon, he’s been a capable reserve for the back to back defending CA state champs the past couple of seasons. His main offensive weapon is his outside shooting. He’s got good range on his shot and he takes his time squaring up without rushing anything.
5. Austin Cook – BTI Select 2020 17U
Cook is an exceptional shooter, but his passing has taken his game to another level. One of the premier shooters in the SoCal area, the incoming senior from Damien High School can knock down shots from anywhere on the court. That was clearly on display Saturday night. He’s hit bigtime three-point shots during the season for Damien. His outside shooting opens up the floor for the rest of his offensive game and allows him to draw the defense and make plays for his teammates. Poised for a big senior year.
