Many of these athletes have offers ranging from D2 all the way to JUCO or Prep Schools. With a few more weeks until these seniors graduate, we will hopefully will be hearing updates on their commitments in the coming weeks. Not all of these players will play college basketball, but there is no doubt all of these players have made their names known in the Dayton area this past season. Here are the top unsigned seniors in Dayton right now.
Erik Uszynski- Legacy Christian- One of the Knights leaders during their historic run this season, Uszynski emerged as one of the better low post players in the Metro Buckeye Conference. A skilled scorer and aggressive rebounder, he was being looked at by several D3 schools throughout the season. Ultimately, he has elected to play at Link Year Prep in Missouri and has reclassified to the Class of 2020. The additional year should allow more D3 schools to take a look at Uszynski as he easily can play at that level. If he can continue to improve on his midrange shooting, I think he could attract some NAIA attention.
Griffin Doseck- Anna- Arguably one of the top players in the SCAL last season, Doseck is a steal for a D3 if they are looking for a small forward still. At 6’4, he can play inside and out, and brings physicality on both ends of the floor. In watching him play, one can see he makes smart decisions with his back to the basket and looks most comfortable while playing on the block. I especially like the hustle he brings to the floor as he does not take plays off. Coming from a small rural community like Anna may have made it difficult for schools to get out and see him but make no mistake Doseck can play.
Kendall Moore- Belmont- Belmont has developed some talented players during the last few seasons. Moore is the next in line of talented Bison ball players that can play next level. A very quick point guard, Kendall saw his stock rise during the preseason and ultimately made his presence known to the Dayton area his senior season. Possessing a tremendous amount of athletic ability, Kendall has plenty of bounce and made many plays above the rim throughout the year. He is a high IQ guard that can make plays for himself and others when he gets out in transition. As of now, he has offers from D2 and D3 schools and hopefully will be announcing his commitment soon.
Jacob Gudorf- Brookville- You won’t find a more unselfish guard than Gudorf in Southwest Ohio. The definition of a distributor, Jake has the size and the unselfishness to excel at the next level. At 6’3 he can break down defenders and penetrate from the perimeter, but possesses the ball control and vision to pass the ball to open players when the defense collapses. NAIA and D3 schools have been recruiting him, and he currently has offers from Mount Vernon, Wittenberg, and Bluffton among others. If he can develop a more consistent shooting touch from midrange and deeper, he could be a truly dangerous offensive weapon.
Twon Hines- Northridge- One of the biggest surprises so far this off season has been the lack of offers Hines has received. After an unforgettable tournament run where the Polar Bears made it to the Regional Finals in Division II, one would think Twon would have received some interest after being a major reason for their success. A physical guard, Hines doesn’t give in to pressure at all. Able to score near 20 almost any night, he showed off his range and penetration skills against quality teams in their postseason run. Even though he doesn’t have any basketball offers, Twon likely will play football at the next level as he has offers from Morehead State, Valparaiso, and Urbana among others.
Ronnie Hampton- Wayne- A solid player on both ends of the floor the last 2 seasons, Ronnie has been one of the most impressive players in the GWOC during his time at Wayne. On the defensive end, Hampton was an aggressive on-ball defender able to defend both guard positions and brought a physicality aspect that made it difficult for him to be beat off the dribble. Offensively, although not known for his shooting touch, Ronnie still found ways to score the ball, especially on the dribble drive. A driven player, I think he can play at a small D3 school and could be a target for a Post-Grad team looking for another guard.
Garret Powell- Springboro- D2 and D3 schools have been heavily interested in Powell all season long and for good reason. The 6’7 forward can make plays on both ends of the floor. On the offensive side of the ball, he’s tough to defend. He can beat you on the block, with his midrange, or off the dribble. On the defensive end, he is a solid post defender and isn’t afraid to contest shots and protect the rim. He has offers from Holy Cross, Christian Brothers, and Thomas More as well as multiple schools in the OAC. I believe Garett is very capable of competing at a D2 school, but ultimately will have a chance to make an immediate impact with whichever school he signs with.
Corey Hartman- Miamisburg- Corey played a large role for the Vikings as their point guard the last two seasons. Although not know for being a 20+ scorer every night, Corey played like a typical guard. He controlled the ball and served as a floor general. Able to score the ball in many ways, he demanded respect from opposing defenses but also put the ball in his teammates’ hands. He had offers from Cincinnati Christian and Bluffton, but I could see him excelling at a D3/JUCO as well.
Matt Pearce- Centerville- Pearce reminds me a lot of former Fairmont sharpshooter Jack Hendricks. He can shoot the ball from basically anywhere and is deadly in catch and shoot situations or off the dribble. One of the smoothest backcourt players in the GWOC, Matt was a smart shooter, knowing when to pass up on contested or tough shots. His patience allowed him to excel in half-court situations which played well into how Centerville wanted to run their offense. If I’m a D3 school looking for a 3-point specialist, Matt is available and could be a nice addition.
