With games being played at Mainsfield Timberview High School, home of the boys State Champions, there was plenty of talent roaming the gym. I put together the top 5 players I had the opportunity to cover on Saturday.
1. Dallas Showtyme Rise – Arterio Morris– 6’4-2022-Lincoln HS
Arterio Morris was by far the best shooting guard I seen on Saturday. Big time athlete who can finish at the rim and above the rim. At just 15 years old, he has the talent to play and be an impact player. He can shoot the ball at a high clip. Morris impressed me with his ability to control the flow of the game, while running some point for the Showtyme. When his teammates needed him, he stepped up and turned it on. Defensively he has no problem taking the challenge of guarding big or taller players. When he gets it going on both ends of the court, he’s the best player in the gym. Look for him to raise his stock if he keeps performing at a high level.
2. Play Ball Nation- Jobe Love-5’11-2022- Timberview HS
A true point guard, one could make the argument Jobe Love is the best point guard in the tournament. At 5’11 he plays way bigger and is tough as any player out here. Interested in what his vertical leap measures out to be. Love’s athleticism had the crowd in aw a few times seeing him sky for rebounds. It was very impressive seeing him rebound, tip the ball in, and make acrobatic layups all day. The quickest player from end to end, with and with out the ball in his hands. Leading all scorers with 19 vs OK Eagles. Love scored 5 straight times before coach pulled him to rest up for the next game. A very exciting player to watch at just 15 years old, Love is a must see.
3. Play Ball Nation- Cobye Baldwin– 6’4- 2022- Hebron High School
This young man will be one of the toughest players in the circuit come his junior, and senior year. A kid with a huge upside, he will be a player you will want to follow. Cobye Baldwin showcased his ball handling skills weaving in and out of traffic, getting to the rim. Rebounding at a high level allows him to push the ball during the fast break. Pulling up in transition, his shot was pure and was on today. Using his size and length, he can guard the 1-5. Very impressed with what I saw in Baldwin today, keep an eye on him.
4. Dallas Showtyme Rise- Cameron Williams– 6’8- Duncanville HS
A highly recruited football player, Cameron Williams is a jack of all trades. Being a stud on the basketball court, I can only imagine how good he is on the field. At 15 years old, he automatically draws double and triple teams while on the block. He has great foot work and creates space around the rim. Lite on his feet, he can run and get back in transition. The kid is a double double machine, if he develops an outside jumper, how will he be stopped? Williams doesn’t have to use the pick and roll much, but if he does perfect it, his game will be that much more elite.
5. Texas Impact 15U- Kheaden Bennett-6’3-2022- South Grand Prairie HS
At 6’3 Kheaden Bennett showed that he could be a star on the rise. Scoring at will, he showcased the ability to hit jumpers and floaters at the rim. Rebounding really well, using his strength to pull down boards on both ends. Want to see him finish this tournament out strong, Sunday will be a big day for Bennett and the Texas Impact.
