With a lack of height in 5A this season could really be dominated by teams that have elite guard play or a young big that’s good around the hoop. Not just players that can shoot the 3-ball but guards that can create and get to the basket.
Here are a few teams we think have a shot going into next year as a lot of these players on these teams are showing growth on their respective club teams.
10 teams to be aware of
Alta
Bountiful
East
Farmington
Highland
Olympus
Timpanogos
Timpview
Wasatch
Woods Cross
The teams listed above are listed alphabetically. One of the more intriguing teams is Alta because they are one of the few teams that has varsity experienced players at each position. With a more manageable region they could put together a good run.
Region 5 – Bountiful is going to be the favorite but Woods Cross has a lot of pieces coming back as well. Farmington and Viewmont will compete. As for Bonneville and Box Elder we will just have to wait and see.
Region 6 – Is loaded with 8 teams but it seems like East will be the front runner as they have the best player in the region. Highland will be small but they have some good guards. Olympus is in a true rebuild year but nobody will take them lightly. Hillcrest and Murray will be sleeper teams in the region. Brighton, Skyline and Cottonwood will be down.
Region 7 – Alta joins Timpanogos as the possible favorites in region 7. Timpview will have some young players that can compete and one of the better guards in the region as well, they could be good. New school Mountain Ridge is in a region that they will be able to compete in as a new school. Orem, Mountain View and Lehi.
Region 8 – Could set up to be a wild region as Wasatch will likely be the favorite to start the season but after that there are a lot of teams that will compete.
