Tigers Take down Norman Parker Field
Annually the Tennessee Tigers 17u contend for the unofficial title of “Best Unaffiliated Team.” Though WHBH now, and EAB last season (now adidas) are making noise, Tiger Head Coach Chip Smith keeps recruiting and then inspiring good players to be great.
Memorial Day Weekend Coach Smith took his Tigers to Atlanta’s northern suburbs. They did not leave until the trophy was buckled in for the ride home.
“The Tennessee Tigers 17u won the Norman Parker Nike Memorial Day Classic in Atlanta this weekend,” shared Coach Smith Monday. “In so doing, they ran their record to 19-1.”
Pool play witnessed the Tigers bouncing three teams: Manatee, Charlotte Jets, Atlanta Lightning. It took two playoff victories to capture the crown. First, Tennessee’s Tigers defeated Team Renegades, 68-51. Next, the Tigers took down Georgia Star-RD, 68-67 for the chip.
With this win the Tigers held steady in the . Only WHBH Gold passed Tennessee Tigers 17u and they added two immediate contributors in the post.
The Tigers feature some tough guards in Kavon Blankenship and Will Pruitt. Dalton Marsh is a strong addition to the program. Overall, the team plays like a team and earned their title.
Younger Team Improving
In the initial PrepHoopsTN 16u Team Rankings, the Tennessee Tigers 16u . They were coming off a tough Bob Gibbons super pool (0-3).
“The Tigers 16u followed up a 2-pt loss last weekend to the Nike Georgia Stars, eventual winner of Bob Gibbons, with a Final 4 this weekend at the Norman Parker Memorial Day Classic,” shared Coach Smith. “Last weekend, The Tigers had the ball down 1 with 8 seconds left and had a layup roll out with 2 seconds and had to foul for the ultimate, heartbreaking 2 pt loss to the Nike Ga Stars.”
Sunday, the Tigers fell 81-67 to Team Heat Elite. Later Team Heat Elite dropped the Championship Game to CP3.
