With a handful of teams from Utah in attendance we take a closer look.
Who impressed us the most? Here’s a nice list of players to start.
Surprises
Nathan Lowe, 5’10 PG, Utah Premier National Red
Lowe, who played varsity at Park City, was the best player on the Utah Premier teams. He not only a high intensity player. he is able to drive a kick the ball to open shooters. He has really worked on his mid-range game as well. His improvement will be much needed next season as Park City struggled in 4A and is now in 5A.
Most Improved
Cameron Millican, 6-3 2020 CG Salt Lake Bounce
Cam has undergone a big growth spurt over the past couple of years. Coaches have been taking notice from all levels. He must get stronger and quicker to impact the game in other ways (rebounding, scoring off the bounce) moving forward. But with his length, size for position and shooting, coaches are going to take a hard look at him. Cam averaged about 18 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assist all weekend.
Most Underrated
Tyler Roberts, 6’6 2020 W/F, Salt Lake Bounce
Roberts plays the game with a chip on his shoulder, and takes on all comers. He is a diverse scorer who can attack off the dribble, in the post and has improved his touch from three. The thing that makes him tough is that he is lefty. Roberts is a high academic prospect that will get looks from small schools.
Jaden Brownell, 6-7 2021 W/F, Utah Premier
Jaden is poised to have a great year at Alta HIgh School next season. His game continues to evolve. Look for Jaden to power this 16U team in most games.
Young Guns
Yorgi Golesis, 2022 Utah Force
Jaxon Smith, 2023 Salt Lake Bounce
Micah Madry, 2023 Salt Lake Bounce
Notes:
- Salt Lake Bounce 16U has some pieces to be a great team. 6’4′ F Keigan Phung of Woods Cross is a load and he continues to improve his shooting. Juan Diego H.S trio of 6’0 Talon Valdes, 6’5 W Matt Rohden and 6’2 G Jag Gill-Martin are a force. Their 15’s have some talent in Elijah Tolbert and Evan Wigton.
- Utah Force has some players that can play up as they used some 14U players on their 15’s roster
- Utah Premier had a handful of teams but none looked better than their 16U team that played well all weekend.
