The Stars have built a reputation of being one of the more competitive club programs in the greater Seattle region. Below is a quick background and preview on one of the top rising programs in Washington!
Background:
The Seattle Stars were founded in 2011 with just a single team of second graders. Director Benjamin Blue and coach Mark Arington were the original coaches of that team and have remained with the program ever since. They truly built themselves from the ground up and in 8 years, the program now has teams from 3rd-10th grade. The growing success of the high school program has been built on foundation of some very strong youth teams coming up through the years and particularly in the 2021 and 2022 classes. Those kids now make up the core of the 15u/16u rosters that have had a very strong showing in the Spring club season.
16u Roster:
2021 6’3 G Lonyatta Alexander (Kennedy Catholic HS)
2021 6’0 G Isaiah Brown (Mount Vernon HS)
2021 5’10 G Kyle Carlesimo (Seattle Prep HS)
2021 6’4 F Ben Ferrara (Kamiak HS)
2021 6’2 G Haden Hicks (Prosser HS)
2021 6’5 SF Logan Kinloch (West Valley HS)
2022 6’7 F Tyler Mrus (Seattle Prep HS)
2021 6’4 F Jaye Ohonme (Kamiak HS)
2021 6’2 G Jose Reyes (Davis HS)
2022 5’11 PG Braeden Smith (Seattle Prep HS)
Scout’s Outlook:
The Seattle Stars 16u team has some star power to it with freshman point guard Braeden Smith and his high school teammate Tyler Mrus. These two get a lot of the headlines, due to their ability and familiarity in Seattle, but this roster has some hidden gems like Haden Hicks and Jose Reyes from the Central Washington region. This team has good athleticism all around and will continue to compete as they head into the summer session of club ball.
Summer Schedule:
July 5-7 Battle in Seattle (WA)
July 11-14 West Coast Elite Summer Classic (CA)
