Background:
The Seattle Stars were founded in 2011 with just a single team of second graders. Director Benjamin Blue and coach Mark Arington were the original coaches of that team and have remained with the program ever since. They truly built themselves from the ground up and in 8 years, the program now has teams from 3rd-10th grade. The growing success of the high school program has been built on foundation of some very strong youth teams coming up through the years. The 2022 class, in particular, has been very strong dating back to their elementary days. The success has continued for that group and they are coming off of blowout win over Seattle Rotary’s 15u team just a week ago.
15u Roster:
Head Coach: Mark Arington
2022 5’10 G Maleek Arington (Auburn HS)
2022 6’1 G Samuel Burroughs (O’Dea HS)
2022 5’4 PG Kai Cannady (Kennedy Catholic HS)
2022 6’6 F Diontae Jeffrey (Kentridge HS)
2022 5’11 G Raphiel Justice (Garfield HS)
2022 6’4 SF Neven Marinkovic (Seattle Prep HS)
2022 6’5 PF Tom Nash (Bellevue HS)
2022 6’1 G Ben Nyquist (Lake Washington HS)
2022 5’10 G Daekwon Watson (Auburn HS)
Scout’s Outlook:
The Seattle Stars 15u team is without a doubt one of the best 15u teams in the northwest region. They currently stand at 2-1 against Rotary’s 15u EYBL team and two of their best freshman spend most of their time playing at the 16u level. This team has a good mixture of perimeter shooting and athleticism from the guard positions. They have a plethora of guards that can beat their man off the bounce and make plays. One sleeper is 6’5 Tom Nash. He is a lanky athlete that blocks a lot of shots and can finish with a momentum shifting dunk on offense. If this group can stay together, they will be a team to watch for the next couple years and should send off a solid amount of kids to the college ranks.
Summer Schedule:
July 5-7 Battle in Seattle (WA)
July 11-14 West Coast Elite Summer Classic (CA)
