I watched the 17U division and saw some Elite-8 teams plus a couple consolation bracket games.
Here are some of the standouts I viewed in the 2021 class:
Jason Kimbrough CG 5’11 Mountain Pointe HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-Quick on-ball defender and perimeter shooter. Has a nice floater game with good speed, quick first step, strength and wits. Once he gets rolling from the 3pt line, he is hard to stop. Has a quick mid-range pull-up and always seems to make plays when his team needs it most. He should have a monster HS season his junior year. (Pictured on cover)
Isaiah Broady SG 6’6 Chandler HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-Longest kid in the building. Deep 3pt shooter with a fast release. Can throw it down on the break. Thin but can absorb the contact inside and score it or get fouled. Uses his length in the passing lanes. Euro step is part of his layup package and uses his length to get around shot blockers.
Grady Lewis C/PF 6’7 Sunnyslope HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-Strong and bouncy defensive post presence. Can score it inside the paint with good body control but needs to make growth with his perimeter shooting. Grabs rebounds inside at a high rate. FT line and in is probably his current range. Good upside for the rising junior.
Alex Gaylor PF 6’6 Sunnyslope HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-Highly skilled and efficient forward. Face-up from 15-feet and in, drop-step moves and good footwork. Can handle the ball well for a forward and make smart passes to teammates.
Jose Miguel SF 6’3 Maricopa HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-3 and D wing who has good length and is a consistent shooter. Scrappy on defense and always seems to be in the right spot. Sneaky good passer and does what is needed to do to win. He is one of those players you wish you can see more since he plays at a small HS.
Marcus Wady PG 5’9 Desert Vista HS (Firestorm Nation 16U Smith)
-Fast pure PG who can turn the corner quickly. Good perimeter shooter who can make 3’s and pull-up from mid-range. Pushes the ball with the best of them in transition and finds shooters or cutters easily with nice court vision. Can make contested shots in traffic despite his size.
