As players have journeyed to Wichita, Kansas to boast their talents, a few players have separated theirselves through the first morning of play. From the players I have been able to watch, these were my favorites from Saturday morning in no particular order:
Asa Williams 2019 Rocky Mountain Select guard
Unsigned senior standout Asa Williams did everything pretty well Saturday morning; he knocked down a trio of 3-pointers, he rebounded, he ran point in transition, he protected the rim and he did it all at top speed. The fastest player on the floor, his high motor and longevity ware important for his team.
Marcus Huntley 2020 Victory Ministry point guard (pictured above)
If anybody exemplifies “heart-over-height,” it’s Marcus Huntley. The 5-foot-9-inch junior went for 19 points Saturday morning in a win over a talented squad. He scored well along the perimeter, hitting a pair of deep 3s in the showing, but most of his work came on the drive where his craft and finesse with the ball were phenomenal.
Nate Goodlow 2020 Team Griffin point guard
Nate Goodlow finished with 14 points in a Team Griffin wing and was the arguably the best overall two-way player of the day. He’s a determined ball-hawk who never discounts an opposing team’s passing as exclusive to that team. As an on-ball defender, the 6-foot-2-inch junior benefitted from many steals on the other end thanks to his finishing abilities and even flushed one home.
Gethro Muscadin 2020 Team Griffin forward
Sunrise Christian (KS) star center Gethro Muscadin had as dominant a performance you can have in a half. He scored 19 points in the post, most of which came from dunks in the half-court. The 6-foot-10 prep standout rebounded and protected the rim as well and was tremendously-efficient when fed the ball.
Raymond Johnson 2020 Rock Mountain Select wing
Raymond Johnson was an all-around guy for Rocky Mountain Select this morning. He dropped 18 points, most of which came at the rack. His versatility was unmatched amongst the players on the floor; he was equally as threatening an offensive player as a slasher and as a drive-and-kick floor general. He worked for rebounds, defended the ball and has an excellent motor.
Landon Greggs 2020 Rocky Mountain Select point guard
Landon Greggs ran the point for Rocky Mountain Select and was the premier floor general, but still finished with 9 points in the process. Greggs is a pass-first guy through-and-through, and his ball-handling skills were unstoppable as he burst down the floor controlled and on a mission to set his teammates up for success.
