With the spring grassroots season underway, Prep Hoops takes a look at several Kansas City area forwards in the 2020 class who are raising their profile.
11-Josh Butler, 6’5, 2020, Lee’s Summit West, Marcus Denmon Elite
Butler has speed, strength and agility. He stays center court when on a fast break and can clean up plays and score through contact and connect from the free throw line. He’s bouncy when he needs to be and pull in a rebound against a stronger, taller post player inside.
32-Mark Cann, 6’5, F, 2020, Raytown South, KC Silver
A big bodied forward who plays strong and uses his size well in the paint and mid-range. He can jump well and brings strength and rebounding skills to the floor. Also a smart ball handler and shows guard instincts when brings the ball up the floor and looks to kick off the team’s offense.
4-Ahmed Mahgoub, 6’5, 2020, Oak Park, YOBO
Has great height and nice lift. He moves off the ball and has good hands, a strong frame and good footwork. He moves in and out of the lane well and has good instincts with the ball. A versatile player who gets time through his work ethic.
20-Jonothan Thompson, 6’5, 2020, Park Hill South, YOBO
Thompson is an athletic player who has quick hands and uses his body to force himself to the basket. He can get up the floor quickly and plays above the rim. He keeps his eye on the ball and is quick to react when it goes up. He is also an underrated rebounder on the defensive side.
28-Elisha Haynes, 6’4, 2020, Lee’s Summit West, KC Silver
A nice leaper who looks to rebound and finish plays. He has a great deal of athleticism and jumps high and avoids contact. He can adjust his shot in the air and gets several rebounds and put back opportunities because of his work ethic.
