Terrell Kabala 6’1″ Victory Ministry Blue: I’ve been waiting a long time to see this young man from Webb City play in person and I was not disappointed as this thick-bodied point guard was one of the most impressive players in the tournament. He is build like a linebacker, but he is highly skilled and very explosive as he can throw down resounding dunks. He has three-level scoring ability and the can make his teammates better. He also displayed a clutch gene as he knocked down a mid-range jumper in the last seconds to give his team a victory in the quarterfinals. He is also a big-time prospect as a football player as well.
Jaylen Boyd 6’1″ Team Ramey CCM: The strong two-way point guard from Ladue helped lead Team Ramey to the 17U championship with an impressive showing during the weekend. Jaylen is so good at getting to the basket while changing speeds and keeping opposing defenders off balance with his quickness and herky-jerky moves. He is tough from the mid-range on pull ups and has an improved 3-point stroke. On defense, he uses his length and tenacity to cause problems to opposing ball handlers.
Rashad Weekly-McDaniels 6’0″ SW IL Jets: The thick-bodied point guard from Trinity has an excellent overall skill set when it comes to facilitating and getting buckets. He has the strength to play through contact and score in the lane, but he can also pull up from well beyond the 3-point line in transition. He stays low on the dribble and he can beat you with a variety of moves to escape defenders.
Tahj Patterson 6’1″ Gateway: The crafty floor leader from Lutheran North had a solid weekend in helping Gateway to the 17U championship game. He did a nice job of handling pressure defense and he displayed a few sneaky escape moves that got himself into the lane for buckets or kickouts to open shooters.
Marcus Huntley 5’9″ Victory Ministry Blue: A small, quick point guard from Carthage who plays with a lot of pace and attitude. Pound for pound, he was one of the toughest kids I watched all weekend. He was fearless and never backed down from anybody of any size from the other team. He was at his best in the open court where he attacked the basket and kept the tempo fast. On the defensive end, he made himself quite a pest to opposing ball handlers.
Zachary Patterson 6’1″ Missouri Elite: The combo guard from Trinity was quite good for the second consecutive weekend that I watched him in action. He has good size and passing ability. He was also very effective off the ball with his ability to score. He has good 3-point range and he has the ability to get in the lane and utilize his size around the basket.
Glenn Valentine 5’11” Ramey Basketball CCM: A quick point guard from Cardinal Ritter who played an unsung role for the 17U champions. He is an excellent on-ball defender who kept up good pressure in the half-court and even drew a couple of five-seconds calls in the championship game. He is a solid ball handler and decision maker who made timely 3-pointers throughout the weekend.
Hunter Berry 6’0″ Missouri Flight: A very solid performer from Bolivar who is a capable ball handler and passer. His ability to facilitate the offense was excellent as he delivered dimes to open 3-point shooters and his explosive athletes at the rim. It was pinpoint and very effective. He handled the pressure quite well and can also make an open perimeter shot of his own.
Quay Jeter 5’11” Dominators: A small-school point guard from Savannah who has been playing varsity basketball since his freshman year. He is very poised and he knows how to handle himself on the court, where he is a solid ball handler and perimeter shooter.
Metro St. Louis Point Guards
Ray’sean Taylor 6’1″ Gateway (IL): The talented point guard from Collinsville (IL) is one of the best point guards in the St. Louis metro area. The quick southpaw is hard to defend because he has the quickness and craftiness to create off the dribble and get in the lane against any kind of defender. He will draw fouls at the basket and stop and pop for pull up mid-range jumpers. His 3-point shot also compliments his game. He received an offer from SEMO after his sophomore season last year.
Dadine Moore 6’2″ Team Ramey CCM: A big-bodied point guard from Granite City (IL) who plays a nice old-school game that is very effective. He is not going to blow by his man with blinding quickness, but he always gets where he wants to go on the court. He will back down his defender while maintaining his court vision. He dropped several nice dimes throughout the weekend and can also knock down open 3-pointers.
