It’s packed with the best talent from around the state and this year was no different. Today, we are looking at the top 2020 prospects.
Mitchell Wilson – 5’11 PG 2020 – Columbia City (IN) – Club 1 Prime 2020
Mitchell is a tough lead guard with an offensive game that stands out. He’s so good off the bounce, creating in the lane or hitting pull-ups. He’s not shy and willing to take any shot he wants. Capable shooter from distance and in the mid-range and has a solid ability to separate himself with the dribble to get it off. Not a huge catch-and-shoot guy right now. So physical when he wants to drive to the rim, able to create contact, finish, and draw the foul. He’s also picking his spots really well right now.
Will Geiger – 6’5 PF 2020 – Norwell (IN) – Club 1 Prime 2020
Will is a mobile forward who looks to have added quite a bit of strength. He’s improved as a post rebounder and scorer, showing off he can do more on the offensive rebounds. He’s not going to be the tallest forward but he’s so productive and tough that he’s very difficult to stop.
Charlie Peterson – 6’8 PF 2020 – North Central (IN) – Indiana Elite North 2020
Charlie is a tall forward who can step out and shoot pretty well. He’s more likely to float around the wing than play inside but he is mixing it up more often now. When open, he’s going to hit the jumper at a good rate. Not a productive rebounder because he tends to float right now but when in the post, he can rack up some numbers and draw fouls because of his size. Would like to see a lot more impact around the rim to balance out his game and have other avenues for offense.
Edreece Redmond – 5’11 PG 2020 – Bishop Chatard (IN) – Indiana Elite North 2020
Edreece is a small but tough lead guard with a ton of creativity. Liked his dribble drive game this weekend with enough weapons around him that he had the confidence to kick the ball out and score. He’s not a guy who is going to play above the rim but he’s tough and very agile around the rim where he can create space to get his shot off. Looked much more put together in AAU than high school.
Gavin Yoon – 6’1 PG 2020 – Lawrenceburg (IN) – Indiana Legends 2020
Gavin is a tough lead guard with good size and some length on the ball. Shot the ball well when we saw him and has a great pull-up game. Like his ability to play defense on the ball, able to be physical and create turnovers. He’s really physical and capable of versatility on either guard spot on either side of the ball. Has some speed and plays well in transition but better suited as a halfcourt player who could use ball screens at a pretty high level.
Donovynn Lewis – 6’1 PG 2020 – New Haven (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2020
Donovynn is a long, lean guard who can be a great 3-and-D prospect. Capable jumper where he can really utilize his length to get the shot off high and over defenders. But, he’s probably better as a defender using his length and athleticism. Has good speed and pace so playing on the point shouldn’t be an issue. Played his best ball we have seen this weekend.
Victor Young – 6’4 SG 2020 – Muncie Central (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2020
Victor is an outstanding scoring guard with more room to grow. He’s wired to put up points whether off the bounce or as a shooter. Capable driver that likes to slash quickly and finish with length at the rim. Frame isn’t quite filled out and while tough he’s going to add a lot more strength which will only accent his scoring. Had the jumper working this weekend so the balance of his game was pretty prevalent. One of the best all-around scorers in the class.
Qualen Pettus – 6’4 SG 2020 – Fort Wayne Northrop (IN) – Indy Heat Red 2020
Qualen is a big wing scorer who is still a little too passive at times but when he locks in, you know he’s going to be a good one. Capable scoring in every way, shooter in the mid-range or beyond and tough on the drives to the rim. Really good rebounder and can compete with bigs in the post. All of the skills are there but needs to be put together more often, just waiting for it all to come full circle and could be a breakout contender.
Gavin Herrema – 6’4 SF 2020 – Covenant Christian-DeMotte (IN) – SYF 2020
Gavin is a long, thin shooter. More of a 3 than a true 2G right now as he’s not a big drive guy or rebounder. However, he’s a really good shooter off the catch and even showed he can create a bit on the wing. Frame will need time to add strength, pretty thin right now, but doesn’t shy away and could really blossom soon.
Charlie Yoder – 6’4 SF 2020 – Westview (IN) – SYF 2020
Charlie is one of the best scoring threats in the state. His shooting is consistent and high level. He was really solid in that regard this weekend and showed toughness in transition at the rim. Would really like to see him more involved defensively and active on that end. But, the skill is really good on the other end of the floor. Upside still to be tapped into as he gets stronger and plays higher level talent on the circuit.
Jake Wadding – 6’4 SF 2020 – Chesterton (IN) – SYF 2020
Jake is a big wing who is looking better this spring. He was really solid in the lane and playing above the rim on offense and defense. The biggest area of his game still to come together is his shooting. However, he did showcase it more this weekend than we have seen before and the release and mechanics all look really good, just needs to mix it in more. The athleticism seems to be playing up more and being able to mix it up with forwards on the boards, too.
DeMarcus Vaughn – 6’3 SG 2020 – South Bend Washington (IN) – SYF 2020
DeMarcus is a big guard that can play the 2/3 pretty well. A little too aggressive on offense some times needing to pick his spots better. However, he can make plays and shooting is improved to the point where mid-range or threes are both really solid for him. Big and physical, could be an interesting defender at the next level if he can put focus on that part of his game. Should be able to switch 1-3 with time.
Chris Okeke – 6’7 PF 2020 – East Chicago Central (IN) – SYF 2020
Chris is a very long, raw prospect as a forward. He’s a post player that is over 7’ long and utilizes it to the fullest. Great rim protector and rebounder around the rim. Not a shooter but free throws looked fine and could be a preview of things to come. Great athlete that will get up and down the floor really well. Impacts things a ton one defense and should be able to come out and hedge on the perimeter and switch a little bit. Again, raw but tons of potential.
