Hoffer helped put DTA Gold on the map last year at the 16u level and now that the program has changed to Inspired Athletics, Hoffer continues to lead the way. Talon went for double figures in all games in Council Bluffs two weekends back and we were able to speak with him following a nice run.
“We have a great coaching staff, the coaches really care about us at Inspired Athletics,” Talon said. “Our coaches really push us and keep up with us. They text us during the week and help keep us in the gym. Keep us working.
“The players on this team are great to compete with. It seems like a family out there.”
Inspired Athletics includes other talented Fargo/Moorhead area players like Zion Dettman of WF Sheyenne and Cayden Rickard of Fargo North plus St. Cloud Apollo (MN) talents like Michael Gravelle (leading scorer at Apollo last year) and Puoch Dubuol.
“I hope to become more of an all around player competing at the 17u level,” Hoffer said. “I want to be able to guard anyone, I want to rebound well, and score from all three different levels.”
Also on the team is Hoffer’s high school teammates Quincy Smith and Roman Srejma and together, along with Owen Mears this group has helped take Shanley in a nice direction.
Hoffer moved into a varsity leadership role as a junior at Shanley over the winter and the results we all positive.
“I think I improved as a leader a lot,” Talon explained. “At the begging of the season there was a lot of inexperienced guys playing but at the end of the season we just went on a run.
“We started winning and it led to seven wins in a row. When I improved as a leader it really brought the team together.”
Next year at Fargo Shanley expectations will be higher but they are also welcomed by Hoffer as this upcoming season is what he’s been working for.
“I’m going to keep working hard in the off-season. We have a couple good sophomores coming back that are going to be juniors (Braden DeKeyser and Emmet Kenney II are both top 30 sophomores in the state) who I think are going to really help us. We should be able to achieve our goals.”
Next for Talon will be college basketball. The skills, talent, and success are there. Now it’s time to see which schools will track Hoffer and hope to bring him to their campus.
