Recruiting Report: Ronald Polite (2020)
Scan the list of local 2020 prospects, and you wont find many better pure point guards than Ronald Polite of Oxon Hill. While he probably prefers to distribute and get others involved, Polite has recently shown improvements in his scoring ability.
“I gotta be a threat at all times. They’ve gotta guard me. If they guard me, somebody’s open. If they don’t guard me, I’ve got to score,” Polite explained. “I just developed playing off the ball recently. I used to always play point guard, creating for others. So I’ve tried to learn how to score. Get an all around game.”
Polite has become very adept at creating space for himself in the mid-range areas. His shooting continues to improve, and he’s becoming a more consistent finisher at the rim.
Another aspect of Polite’s game that continues to improve is his defense. Working with the ladder to improve his foot-speed helps him stay in front on the ball and get in position to take charges while in help side. Polite is still working to get stronger so he can better absorb all the contact he takes.
Recruitment has picked up for Polite in recent months. George Mason and James Madison became the first two D1 schools to offer. Polite is also receiving from Robert Morris and Radford. He is a 3.5 student with an 1150 SAT score, but just took it again and is waiting on another score. Even if his score doesn’t improve, Polite should have plenty of options to choose from at the next level.
“Good academics for sure,” Polite replied when asked what factors are important in picking a school. “And just a good school with great people.”
What can he bring to a college program?
“Just a good playmaker. I make everyone around me better. Good leadership too.”
