The Warriors (24-6) were looking for their third straight Class 3A state title but came up short 50-48 on a walk-off dunk by Allan Jeanne-Rose of St. John Paul II (VIDEO).
Strachan, a 6’6″, 190-pounder says he transferred from Godby to Orlando Christian Prep to gain more exposure.
“Academically I was fine because I used to a school with high academics. I had to adjust to a team full of talent and had to compete during every practice,” Strachan told Prep Hoops. “I grew the most mentally because I stayed with another family and being away from my parents. It was exciting to make it to Lakeland with everyone competing there to win a championship.”
No offers have come yet for the 2020 prospect, but he’s drawn interest from Liberty and Middle Tennessee State.
Strachan is spending his first year with GameSpeed Elite and he says it has helped him to showcase his skills at high-level tournaments.
“Gamespeed allowed me to play the point guard position where I can bring the ball up the floor and be a facilitator,” he said. “I think showing point guard skills at 6’6 is very marketable.”
He pointed to his biggest strengths as his offensive skills, first step, versatility and being able to finish strong at the rim. Strachan says he wants to improve his jumper and movement without the ball.
This is a tough minded kid who likes to grind downhill and he does it well. Strachan is in for an increased role this season for a maturing Orlando Christian Prep unit. In the meanwhile, he’ll look to draw the attention of college coaches with his versatility and point guard ability.
